2004 LT160. Friend of mine bought a house last summer, this came with it. He couldn't start it last week so he got pissed and said he was buying a new one and did I want the JD. Free is for me baby. I charged the battery, replaced the fuel filter and traction drive belt, and greased all the fittings, sharpened the blades, then cleaned it all up. Total of $35. Let the green grass grow!

No offense to your friend, but some people just shouldn't be allowed to touch machinery....

Yes they should, just long enough to mess up what they have to the point that they buy something else and give the old one to people like us! ;lol I scored a John Deere lawn tractor myself that way along with a generator, a string trimmer, and my McCulloch 610. All free, all needed minimal work (mostly flushing bad gas and varnish) to get going and are running strong to this day.

SUPER SCORE !!

Thank G o d there are plenty of people with more money than brains.

I am a board member at the local cemetery and I take care of the equipment. We have a JD LT150 that is 10 years old, which is the equivalent to 20 years home owner use. It flipped over in a flood and was stolen. I got it back and repaired it. It still runs strong and cuts great, with no play in the steering. I can't get over what a great tractor is has been. Last year the throttle plate broke off and went into the engine. A new carb and it was fine.

I had to spring for a new battery today but now it's in A+ running condition
and my total is $85 so cannot complain. In my pals defense, he has zero
patience and even less mechanical ability. I did offer to go over and help him get it running
but he was pissed it wouldn't fire up when he wanted to mow so he said hell with that I'm buying a new one.
30 year old guy, Vice Prez of a bank. First baby on the way. Life is good and he can well afford new.

Mowed with it today and wow it's a freakin beast! I've only mowed with push mowers. My yard
is less than a half acre total but leaf cleanup is going to be the most fun and effortless. Oh and it came with
a 7 bushel double bag attachment I pulled off to clean before taking the pictures. ;)

Good deal . . . gotta love when folks get frustrated and someone ends up with a sweet deal.

That's awesome !!

Replaced fuel hose from tank to filter yesterday. It was dry rotted and just a matter of time before it sprang a leak. Flushed the tank as well since it was out. Only $6 for four feet of rubber fuel hose. Back together and cut the rest of my neighbors lawn. All set for summer now.

That is one hell of an engine. I put a new carb on our LT150 and that made a huge difference. Shop around for parts on the Internet, the prices really vary. The JD dealer wanted $150 for the carb and I got it for $80 online.

Thanks Jack! I got the traction belt online for $22, locally they wanted double that but yes, I buy online most of the time for everything and have been for many years. Carb, deck belt, oil/filter, and spark plug all replaced recently by the guy my friend bought the house from. :)

Not familiar with mastermech, but xena tech got it running excellent and been cutting a couple lawns in the neighborhood. It does a fantastic job and it's fun to run!

You got a steal even at twice the price. :)

I applaud you for just getting the mower platform back on! My JD is a bear, it's a 100 series, a 115. Junk made for Big Box stores, but it runs well with minimal maintenance.
Don't forget to change the plug!!==c

The mower deck on this lawn tractor is pretty easy to drop/reinstall especially with the owners manual in hand. :).

Dropped the deck today to install a broken spindle brake. Greased all fittings and sharpened blades again while it was down. Cut neighbors lawn after that. He gives me a few bucks for fuel, free beer, and steak tip dinner each time so I cut it all summer.
