I installed an Englander 30 a couple of years ago and have had great success with it. Our house is old and poorly insulated and I find that the Englander 30 tends to cook us out unless it is 0 degrees out.

I've been dreaming of a Blaze King since it will pump out the heat when needed and can be dialed in nice and low for a long clean burn too. So far BK's offering haven't passed the wife test.....until now.

I really like the Sirocco 30. It is everything I want or need in a wood stove. But I'm curious.....anyone know the cost of these things? Being on the East coast we tend to get ridiculous pricing for the BK's. I called a few local dealers about the BK Princess a while ago and was given over-the-phone quotes in the $4k's. No thank you.

What is the realistic pricing for the new BK Sirocco 30? Anyone know? Thanks!:)

Been wondering the same myself.
I'll have to visit the local dealer or call to see if he has that info yet.
4 grand for the princess? yowzer.
I got a rough quote of 2700-2800 last year for that one. Plain Jane model.

You'll love the long burn times. 30 hours is a long long time. I get a chuckle when I poke around in the firebox and bring forward coals for a no-kindling restart after 24 hours using low btu swamp wood. I used to struggle to reload this way when burning just overnight in a non-cat.

Retails for right at 3k with the fan, black door and pedestal here.

From what I've read around here and elsewhere on the internet....it seems $3k give or take a bit is about right for the BK Princess, and now the Sirocco 30 . I'd be delighted to find a deal like that around here. I want a plain jane model with a fan....thats it.

Heck, if $4200 is the best deal I can find around here than I'll drive half way across the country and pick one up myself.

I'll have to interrogate the local dealers a bit more. I'm sure they just gave me an inflated retail number just to see if I would bite.

I'm sure they gave you an inflated number because cat stoves suck and they want to sell you something else they have in inventory.

Yep.....even at $3k I'll have a hard time convincing myself to go from a perfectly functional Englander 30 to a BK. But the prospect of easy 24hr burn times on low during most of the shoulder season and 12hr burn times when its your typical winter sounds awesome!

The Englander 30 loves to run hot. its near impossible to get it to run at anything below 550F. Once the secondaries light off it'll hang out at 750-850F for a while. Getting a fire going 3-4 times a day gets old after 4-5 months of burning.

Try doing it more than that. Maybe 6 here.
If I load it full, I can maybe do 4/day during the cold months. Shoulder season is funner.>>
Oh, and do it for 7-8 months.
See how relative things are?
Stay warm and be happy.

I'd probably sell my car in order to get a BK King at that point.......

You just made the best case ever for a cat stove, or more specifically, a BK. Burn time and control of burn time is such an important factor and it only really becomes apparent after suffering through the non-cat experience. There is a place for a non-cat and some of them can really burn for 12 hours but no stove can touch the control you have with a BK.

I'll be burning for another 6 weeks or so, we go from mid september to mid june most years. We don't get frozen ground or lingering snow but we get a whole lot of time at 40 degrees.

From how its been here this winter in the 40's is light coat weather when cloudy and no coat with the sun.

Agreed, and an excellent point. To put a slightly finer point on it, control of burn time and temp is such an important factor.
This is the point that keeps rearing it's ugly head every time I make fire, and attempt to control it.
It's gotten much better since having the old stove repaired and relearning how to burn it, but I can't wait to get my hands on a stove that I can get to run at the temp. I want for an extended time.
A stove for all seasons, if you will.

I 100% agree with everything thats been said. I see cat stoves as an evolution of non-cat stoves. They offer most of the benefits but few of the weaknesses. Their greatest weakness is probably the potential for maintenance due the cat and associated parts and cost.

Non-Cat stoves are great too and can be very affordable. My Endlander 30 cost me a tad over $500 after a spring sale and a 10% Home Depot coupon. But as a somewhat typical non-cat stove, it is very difficult to master burn time and temp control.
  • You can burn low and slow but you risk a dirty chimney if you aren't careful
  • You can burn long (8-10hrs) by having a packed stove but it is very important to get the air just right. Too much and your secondaries will go nuts and you'll have a stove hotter than you want and a burn time shorter than you want. Too little air and you risk having a dirty chimney. Even then, you'll probably be over 500F
  • You can have low heat and clean burns if you do small hot fires, but you have shortened burn times.
It seems to me that cat stoves are "set it and forget it". If you want a smothered fire that dirties up your firebox thats fine. The cat will take care of the smoke and you will still have a squeeky clean chimney but you can have very low temps.

Anyone want to trade a BK for an Engander?

Myself I wish I had an 8" flue so I could replace the Harman with the King.
No issues with the Harman and I can easily get over 8+ with softwood and 12+ with hardwood.
But, having to go over 24 hours without reloading does sound nice.
If only they had a grill option...

webby, doesn't the fan require the convection deck?
I got a price just over 2000 for the S-20 plain, but it went up several hundred once I added the fan, etc.
I started tuning out.>>
Didn't get info on the 30. I may go back in June or so.

Not many BK dealers in MA. Go up to NH where there are considerably more of the. and I'd bet you'll get better pricing.
