Me and my son have several standing deads on the property so down they went. This is the first, no leaves so I tried to get as much bark/grain pics. Thanks in advance

I would guess, some kind of maple. The shadows make it difficult for me.
 
Young cottonwood? The peeling bark reminds me of cotton wood and It is smelly.
 
I think it looks like Bigtooth Aspen, or perhaps Cottonwood. The barks looks like Bigtooth Aspen, and the light colored wood could be aspen or cottonwood.
 
One of the poplars,
looks similar to some smaller cottonwood I got a few weeks ago.

Shoulder season wood .
