In The Woods
I went for a ride to see how the leeks are doing (about two weeks behind) have a Cherry that is spring loaded on a Maple.

I'll look at it a few more times before I bring it down. 100_7172.JPG100_7173.JPG100_7175.JPG

That cherry might make some good flooring or furniture planks or maybe a muzzle loader stock blank or two or just good firewood.;)

Long bar.

How big is the cherry?
Looks to be in poor shape on one side.

Not want to be cutting on that one , maybe MN will fix it for you.

Nice pics.
Looks like woods that we used to get morel mushrooms in.
Got any there?

Just talking about bringing it down with a rope or cable.

Yup. Be careful with that one zap.

I'm taking my neighbor up here to pick some leeks tonight, we'll see if this is still up. The winds have been minimal so my guess is this is still a leaner.

I did pick some leeks over the weekend for some Potato Leek Soup the wife made, because of the lack of rain they're smaller than last year. We do have rain coming in (starting Wednesday night) so that should help.

Well Sav, the Cherry came down Monday or today. I took my neighbor up so we could pick a bag of leeks, we had a nice conversation about the woods which his father owned.

With this rain coming in it should give the leeks the boost they need. I would like to get this Cherry out of that location before Monday.100_7188.JPG100_7189.JPG100_7190.JPG

That's gotta be a 'feel good' moment, there! Looks like a nice chunk of cordwood, maybe even some boards out of the main trunk.....
I'd be making a little stack next to the firepit fer cooking, brother!

We'll see on how the biggest part of the tree is. I have a chit load of Cherry tops in the woods I'll be cutting just for cooking once the burn ban is taken off,May 15. if we get enough rain.

Steel, the turkeys are around but since hunting season started you won't see them that much. Yes, we have lots of leeks, I'll be doing some more picking in another week.

Woody Stover, I always feel better when a leaner like that comes down without any help from me.

TimJ, it looks like the top cut loose from the Maple it was leaning on then came down, I'll take a better look at the small Maple it was on, I might need to take that down too.

The leeks are smaller compared to this time last year but with the rain coming in I think by 5/21/13 they will be bigger than last year, pic 5130 dated 5/21/12, that was the last bunch of the year.

I've cut quite a few trees in that exact situation this year, thanks to hurricane Sandy. No fun, and I've taken to using the pole saw on more of them, when I can. It's much easier to stay safe from 13 feet away, than from 13 inches away.
