I know it's all preference, but when cutting wood on the ground mostly....what's the best choice for chaps. I see you can buy full wrap around or apron style. I saw a buddy of mine with the apron style and it seemed to work well, but are the Husq full wrap better in terms of comfort, ease of use, temperature? My local shop carries mainly the Husqvarna chaps, so I was hoping to get feedback on those in particular.

1.Husqvarna Full Wrap chaps (PN 531 30 95-67)
2.Husqvarna Pro Forest Apron chaps (PN 531 30 95-66)

I like my full wrap chaps....... in the winter. Anything over 50 degrees and I get all sweaty like just standing around in them. Not much fun, but better than a saw accident.

I'm considering either a set of apron chaps or "Summer Pants" for warmer weather use.

I have a pair of Husky's that snap or clip at two points behind my legs and one at the small of my back(apron I think) I like them but have no comparison. They are simple, go over everything I am wearing and come off easy.

I personally prefer the apron chaps. They pretty much wrap all the way around my legs anyway. If the back of my legs are exposed to the saw that means I dropped it and am running from the tree.

Doesn't that cover up your tramp stamp, Bob?

I have the Stihl "skidder" chaps, full pants with bib/apron, and a zipper down the back of each leg rather than the hokey straps. Without the straps, they fit and wear like pants, and keep me warm in the winter. They are too warm for spring/summer use, though, so I'd really like to get a pair with the straps for warmer weather. I just always figured the straps would be less comfortable, catch on stuff in the woods, etc.

Both of these have about the same protection. You want your front thighs/shins protected mostly. Here it is too hot to wear anything but apron chaps over jeans most of the year, and if full chaps and full pant style keeps you from wearing them, buy the apron style. Easier to get into, more comfortable wearing = more likely to use. I have heard that the Husky chaps quality is not as good as others though. I have the Stihl apron style myself. I also have Stihl steel slip-on shoes.

Not husqvarna chaps but yesterday I got my first ever keeper chaps, made by that other brand (stihl) 139.99 full wrap. Last Week I originally got the apron chaps in my regular inseam size but I tried them on after I got home & they were short & I didn't like the back being open that much + I realized they were only 6 layers of protection. I immediately returned them to my dealer to exchange them in for full wrap 9 layer chaps, the kind with the straps, 4 sizes longer then my normal inseam size (36). I too only use them on the ground. Last evening I tried them for the first time, they were heavy. I buckled the one around my waist, one around my thigh & 3 behind my calves. They were the perfect length & will now cover my boots so no dust in my socks. They are safety orange color. It was 79 degrees when I was wearing them, I can feel the heat around my calves. The kids thought they were cool & looked like snow board pants. I like them & am keeping them. Easy to wash, takes 25 seconds to put them on, not too hot ( deal with it, safety first for me ) & very comfortable. I can see my self wearing them all day & not think twice, I wore them for about 1 hour, cut a bunch of cookies & no dust in my shows when I took them off, shorts were nice to have on underneath.
I imagine the husqvarna brand is similar in style. Forget brands for a second, I chose full wrap, to me more comfortable, I can leave them on when driving in woods to scrounge wood. I'm not worried about snagging the straps. I like how the back is open & allows the air to flow 9 layers -Mike

P.S. I'm going to post this reply as a separate thread in case anyone wants to read about the STIHL in particular

Labonville makes great chaps for less than the rest. Check out their videos on their website or on youtube

After Bigfoot's post, I'm confused. Full wrap, straps, chaps, apron, bib? I used to think I knew what all these words meant. Can someone post a photo guide?

Thanks everyone. The insight was great. Most definately going with the Husk...apron style. I company called GKS near Rome, NY has a fairly competitive price on them too. 65.95

+1 on Labonville.

I have the Husqvarna apron style, $57.95 w/ free shipping

Even they are warm in the summer, I can't image wearing full wrap. You probably don't get to do much cutting in the winter in upstate New York, go for the apron.

Received these as a gift and haven't had the saw running in the woods to use them yet. Considering I've never worn chaps in my life, even if these aren't "the best" protection, they will be one heck of a lot better than the Levi's alone that I'm used to.

Those are the ones I have had for years. I have a heavier duty pair but for grab and go the blue guys are the ones.

Just took'em off ten minutes ago.
