Somebody is just messing with you!:)

Prevailing winds are from the west, go west young man. Our neighbor two lots down has one Red Oak but that is a bit far for that leaf to show up, I think.

They pop up here every year from the acorns dropping and grow pretty quickly until they get to around 6" diameter..

Yep...same here. All the saplings I've been clearing are red oaks.

Squirrels with scissors messing with you ?

Be a good thing. 20 to 30 years from now, nice sized trees.
I'm always planting moving small birch around. Hate to just whack them down.

I'll bet the deer are trying to send you a sign.....they're bringing leaves over to your property in an effort to 'tell' you to plant some oaks....
They sure love the acorns off of oak trees!!

Get rid of the deer and the turkeys and the trees might stand a chance. Soil & Water has a bare root seedling sale in April. It might only be for our county but you can call and ask. I think Red Oak is on the list.

Perhaps a bird was scrounging and dropped it. Too bad, now he wont be able to post on BirdHearth.com. :p... silly.

We will protect them until they get big enough, ya gotta try. We will do six this year, depending on how they do we might do more next year.

It's more for the wildlife, Mother Nature provides us with lots of firewood so this is our gift back.

Too bad you aren't closer. I could fill you up a couple 55 gallon drums with acorns and you could drive around on the rhino chucking them into the woods.

Only one leaf zap? Keep looking and you might find the tree!

I just ordered six Northern Red Oak from arborday.org, we signed up for a membership which will give us 10 free trees, I picked out the Eastern Red Cedar but can call back if I need to change it, the free trees will be a fall ship date, the Northern Red Oak will be here the beginning of June.

What's the size of those trees they send? I've been transplanting eastern hemlock sprouts to the front of my yard, but the colorado blue spruces would be pretty darn sweet. Could move the Hemlocks back to the edge of my tree line to hide the white pines I so loath.

Nevermind. I see 6-12 inches. Not bad at all.
