Hi everyone-
New to the site. I am purchasing a Harman Accentra pellet stove and i have a question about the manufacture date. Can someone please tell me what a reasonable manufactured date would be for a new stove? One that has all the latest updates, etc. For instance, there was one on my dealers showroom floor with a date of 2/2010. Should i expect a new stove that has not been removed from the original packaging and delivered to my house to have a newer manufacture date? Thanks for the help.

I would expect, if you are buying a "new" stove it should have a build date within the last few months. Harman isn't big on that whole "overstock and liquidate" concept. I don't know about your particular dealer...they may have slme carry over stock from last season, but there haven't been a lot of significant updates to any of the units recently.

Thank you for the reply. I would agree that it should be at least within 6-8 months or so, not 3 years. Another question please: If a stove is unpacked and displayed on a showroom floor for a few years but not lit, would that be considered a demo or floor model? If so, then a discount should be offered to the customer if they knowingly purchase it i would say. Your feedback is welcome.

i would expect some kind of discount but I don't think there is a rule for that one. I would think it might be more worth while to buy a new unit, full warrantee and all that kind of thing, rather than save a few dollars...a steep discount of course, is a whole nother matter ;)

OK, so if you went to your local dealer, paid full price money for a new 4K+$ stove and they showed up with a pick-up truck, a stove with no wrapping carton, skid whatsoever and it turned out to be a demo / floor model, would you reject it?

If you paid for a new stove than you should expect a new stove. If your agreement was a new stove an you receaved a demo stove...I simply would not accept it. Sounds like a dealer swap ou to me!

$4,000 isn't chump change and trying to pull a fast one on a customer...just simply isn't ethical!

Is $1500 for a 2006 model still in the box a good price? private sale so I assume no warrantee

Hello

I worked on a 4 year old Harman Accentra that made a loud banging noise every time the the auger made one complete revolution. Turned out to be a worn drive chain.

There is however an updated heavier drive chain that is not as susceptible to this problem. So this is the item to watch out for!

BINGO!! That is exactly what happened to me. I was so upset at them, I refused the stove and had them take it back. After that, there wasn't anything they could do to regain my trust. I did learn a lesson though. You need to be extremely specific when laying the ground rules. I'm guessing most folks would not even questioned it which is what they were counting on. Order canceled, back to the drawing board. I think I made the right decision.

wise man, Im sure you would have been fine but if you buy something new you want it to be new. Else its new old stock and should be discounted.

I concur, thanks. I actually talked to another dealer who has an even better price, plus a free ton of pellets too! Sometimes things happen for a reason.....:)

some dealers pre-burn the stoves to ensure they work properly and cure the paints, burn the oils, etc., so don't assume because they are coming with an unpackaged unit that it isn't "new".

The Accentra's haven't been changed much in the last few years.....biggest change was the move to the Ultralight feeders (no chain drive).....so, if you look in back, and there's a chain/sprocket drive, its several years old......nothing wrong with this, its just older. There have been other changes, such as a lid switch for the fuel door being added and subsequently stopped being added as well, but those are fairly minor changes.

To really find out the manufacture date, you can contact Harman Warrantee section, or as a dealer to call......Harman will be able to give you the manufacture date. Dealers are fairly used to this, as we have to do it sometimes to ascertain whether the unit is still under warranty or not- most folks don't seem to save, or be able to put their hands on, the original sales receipt....
