I have a VC Resolute Acclaim, model 2490. It has worked fine for many years, but now when i close the damper the handle slips back half way until it finds a little resistance. Then during the night, the handle often slips all the way back, causing the damper to open. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem will be greatly appreciated.

there should be a bolt in the middle of the damper. on the backside is a damper ramp if you back off the bolt you should be able to push the ramp up, which will tighten up against the damper rod when closed.
Thanks for the replies. I removed the chimney and could see that the damper rod slips. This allows the damper to open, and of course, the damper handle slams back to open position. I held the nut with pliers and tightened the set screw quite a bit. Now it works fine.
