It is brand new so has the original string wound. I have had to take the head off twice to feed the string through the outlet. Not sure if our technique using it. Any advice? I know seveal of you have this tool and are very happy. We bought the little tiller with it and the grass blade attachment. - have not used either of those yet, just trying to get familiar with the weed wacker. May go back for the brush blade to use at the end of our pasture behind the electric fence line where brush is growing close to the fence line. We did have some trouble getting used to the choke. The instructions were written very strangely or it could just be us.

If the string gets "cris-crossed" on the spool, sometimes this will allow it to 'choke' itself, and it will not feed properly. I would try respooling the string, or just installing new string altogether. try that and see if it works...

thanks Scotty...We will re spool it and see how it goes. May try the blade on the orchard grass growing behind the barn. Vegie garden too wet to try to cultivate.

Bump it at full throttle. The head relies on adequate centrifugal force to spool properly. Let the string get too short or bump it at medium throttle speeds and it will be much more likely to tangle.

Also wouldn't be the first lousy wind job from the factory in my experience. Try winding it again yourself and see what happens.

Did the re-wind and it seemed to help. Also starting betting than it did at first. I think we kept thinking we had to work the choke and kept flooding it.

Most of the smaller stuff you only need to choke it for the first start of the day and usually for only 1-2 pulls.
