How about a jotul F55. Great looking and cheap.

The F50 or F55 would work fine.

I absolutely want to be as safe as possible. That's why I'm trying to fully understand my woodstock (NOT ember protection only?) and my Jotul requirements. As the jotuls are heat shielded, I'd feel a little better being an inch short on the fixed hearth if I put down an extra few FEET of hearth rug ember protection.

What really worries me is if I can safely put a woodstock keystone on a 1 inch + slab of blue stone with some mortar sitting on the wooden floor beams.
If not, I can stop dreaming of the woodstock and move on...

I heated with a Woodstock Fireview for many years, and with a Woodstock Progress Hybrid the past two years. My hearth protection is a slab purchased through Woodstock that is just over an inch thick. It sits on wide board oak floors, which are sitting on plywood, which is sitting on Doug Fir joists.. No problem at all.

I've heard around 2200.

Isn't that specially designed material? Does 1" bluestone have the r-value I need?

We are the clearances on the Jotul F50 and F55 so good?

yes, it's a hearth pad with good R value. But quite thin.
if you need more than ember protection for your hearth, I don't think stone will fly. But if you really wanted a Woodstock, you could top the bluestone with something very thin. Otherwise, there are quite a few stoves that only require ember protection.
