Because I got roped into cutting up a bunch of wood today.

So the storms we had last Thursday took these two trees down. A Hemlock and a Cherry.

I started with the Hemlock.

Hemlock done.

On to the Cherry, here is a pic with an MS 390 for perspective.

About half way on the Cherry.

Finished!

I put a tape on the Cherry on the last full round before they started breaking apart towards the butt, and I measured 31".

Must have been a hell of a wind to drop those trees like that. Good firewood in both. Not the hottest, but they burn good. Nice cutting too, though you could use a 361 or a 440!

The 390 has a MM which woke it up some. 440 or better a 460 with a couple of bars to choose from would be nice. One can dream. :)

The wood didn't come home with me, it is staying on that farm to heat the workshop in a couple winters.

Yah, a 390 with a MM is a lot better. I modified all the 029/290/310s I had with a light MM. The 044/440 really wakes up with the 460 DP muffler cover. Easiest mod I have ever done. Muffler cover bolts right on, re-tune the carb, done. About the same power as the stock 460 I had. 460 had a lot more vibration though, so I sold it and kept the DP MM 044.

That wind did you a favor on the cherry tree........those hollowed out trees are disasters waiting to happen...
Nice cache of wood....too bad the hemlock wasn't bigger, that stuff makes nice barn siding......lasts for eons...

Looks like that definitely was a big blow! Some nice work cutting it up too.

Makes good rails for split rail fencing as well. They last a long time.

Do you get the wood ?
Nice 1/2 rounds noodled up, the cherry might need some noodling too ;)

Good job not getting the saw pinched, hollow cherry looked like a tough one to get into pieces !

2 cords +/- you think ?

I noodled one piece of hemlock because I wanted a look at the grain. Not as interesting as I had hoped.

Honestly both trees went really well considering.

That cherry was so goofy, I couldn't begin to guess how much wood was in it. Those big cherry rounds need something, I think they would split up with a maul fairly easily.

Most times cherry will split fairly easy. Not as easy as ash but most times not difficult either.
