I have about a dozen of them. I need to get them out and look at them. It's been a while.

Cool, I just bought 1977 Wood Burners Quarterly. It has some neat ads in it....
Here are two....

That Columbian was the first stove I burned in. It kept me from freezing one winter in CT.

Columbian? Is that the Ashley Oval stove?

I remember when I was in WV - just turned 19 and one of the local hippie homesteaders said he was taking orders for those. These were considered the Cadillac of Newfangled Stoves at the time (1971). The price was way too high for us - at $120 - so we had to do with the free stove our landlord installed. Then again, since our rent was $30 a month, who were we to complain?

Yes, a big, oval sheetmetal stove. You knew it was burning well by the glow of its sides. Our stove was about $70 in 1969 if I remember right, but maybe that was my half?. It was their simplest model.

Oh, I see the name now in the ad.

We used to call it the "Ashley Automatic". Back then we thought this was the height of technology! We had to get by with the hardware store and junk store models...either the blued steel oval ones or some old cast-iron laundry stove. No overnight burns in those!

I have the same stove in my garage. I actually put it in to cook maple syrup on.
