The wood was already MINE!

This is the mess I picked up after the power company's tree contractor (aka the wood butchers) came through today... I really wasn't happy that they dropped a 12" white oak of mine....

Well at least you got it before it got hauled off or ground into chips .
Scoring your own wood , does kinda cancels things out .

How about "Nice load" ! :)

Errrrr.... do not get me started about power company tree work. In California they came through every year and cut the crap out of my large maple tree. One year they left all the trimmings all around the yard. So I called and gave them an ear full. The company came back to clean it up and whined about it, so I called again and gave them an even bigger ear full, and demanded the manager's number of the tree company contractor. I called them and gave them an ear full, and I filed a complaint against their license as well as a complaint with the PUC about PG&E. That got their attention and a local rep came around and apologized in person and to look at the crappy tree trimming. The next several years they came and cut and cleaned up like no one was ever there.

Here the county came by and cut my pines back along the highway. Similar crappy job, but at least they left me the firewood and a 10 yard truckload of wood chips.

I feel ya Bret . . . I love my oak trees.

A few years back after the 1997 Ice Storm the Town sent a crew through to trim back the branches on trees so they would not hit their snow plow mirrors. However, the crew thought it was much easier to cut down entire trees and chip them vs. using a pole saw to trim back just the branches. When they got to my house my wife who was home at the time went out and told them in no uncertain terms to not cut down my beloved maple, apple and oak trees, but to use their pole saw . . . and they listened to her . . . until they got to the other side of the driveway and fired up their chainsaws again . . . until my wife went back out and again and gave them a tongue lashing. I love that woman!

Here, I've not seen them chip.
Last couple times, I told them to leave the logs for me. They were happy to oblige.

Here they chip everything, up to a foot in diameter. Its amazing how much firewood they just grind up. I had to tell them not to chip the pine logs.

This was not the contractor that the utility has used in the past...... This contractor only seemed to chip the brush.... though.... an awful lot of that oak wasn't there... the previous tree contractor would chip EVERYTHING.... and always seemed to just blow it all over my lawn.....

This new contractor.... oh my god the mess they left on the side of the state road.... 6 miles (until they got to that power co's lines) of just utter butchery...

Bret, sometimes it pays to double check to make sure they are cutting in the right-of-way. Not that long ago a neighbor caught the guy who was marking the trees to be cut and found one big white oak that was not in the right-of-way but marked. He drawed their attention to it and they said okay that they would not cut it. They did. He got several hundred dollars for that tree from them plus all the firewood.

I will have to look into the easement for those lines...
