Father's Day gift for me and my father-in-law: Lake Erie Walleye! I'm in the second picture, the one without the walleye. We caught 25 walleye and boated over 150 fish (sheephead and white bass mostly).

Wow! That's a buncha fish. Glad ya had a great day.

My favorite lake to fish, we charter that lake 3-4 times a year, I go with the guys at work and then my family as a brothers outing. Time well spent and our fish fry makes it worth it.
Nice pics

Do you guys find the same thing I used to find with charters on the Chesapeake Bay? At the front end we would be up to our ears in hits in the first hour out. Then nothing for hours while we ate and drank copiously. Then an hour before going back in we were swamped with hits again.

Just always thought those guys really knew how to work a charter and had really good scopes in those boats. Or radios.

UMMMM Walleye !
One of the best tasting fish there is :)

Nice size to them too ;)
What's the size limit in Erie ?

For walleye Lake Erie has not had a size limit for a while, rather a bag limit witch is currently 6 per person this time of year. It has been 10 and 4 in the past and has changed in the past from spring to summer.
Great Perch fishing lake also.

Same at Erie, the charters will chase the fish usually using radio.
The "bite" we call it usually turns on about every hour or so when you move the boat to drift back across the schools of fish, our best days have been over cast with 2-4 ft waves makes for a good drift with bait action, sorta like trolling using the waves. With calm water alot of them resort to trolling in deeper water.

How did you all fish for them that day FV2788 ?

EDIT : Had Perch on the brain talking about size limit, FV is correct 15" on Walleye.

YES,there is a size limit on Lake Erie for everything EXCEPT perch. Walleye is 15" and a bag limit of 6.

This was done trolling and we had about a 20 minute lull when we didn't have some sort of fish on. We boated over 150 fish but most were white bass and sheephead. This was an 8hour trip which equated to 6.5 hours of lines in the water. 25 walleye in 6.5 hours of fishing meant we averaged 3.8 walleye per hour. We had zero walleye caught that were under the legal limit and as you can see there were some monsters in there.

Our guy did no radio fishing because we were constantly on fish. He did communicate with the others in their fleet but we didn't change plans. He hadn't fished this area in a while and I'm sure if they weren't on the fish we would have moved.
