I looking at these pellets. They are all pretty close in price. Which one would you purchase? I've burned the oakies and vermonts before and was very pleased. However, I hear good things about the spruce point and cubex. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger and would like some feed back. Any opinions?

I've burned Vermont, Okie and Spruce Pointe. All 3 are very close in performance. The pricing would be my deciding factor between them.

Tumbles ~

D & J has the Vermont's fr $289/ton 207-324-9546

bought cubex last year they sucked would never buy again

What didn't you like about cubex?

They left a clumpy ash on the sides of the burn pot. After about a day you had to open the stove and knock it down.

I have tried Spruce Pointe on 2 different occasions...wasn't overly impressed with them for the price.
For me,the MWPsofties was the same performance for a lot less money, alot less fines.
The Cubex I tried a few years ago were pretty good.
I have only heard of Okies...I hear they are great.
I have used Lacretes...if you are gonna spend around 300 per ton, these are the best I have found in this price range.
Havnt used Vermonts...I hear they are good.

Clumpy ash can also be caused from damp air coming into the burn pot. The damp air can come from a damp basement or damp outside air thru an OAK (Outside Air Kit). Damp weather comes and goes so it is hard to tell sometimes, it may not be just the wood pellets. However storage of wood pellets in a damp area for extended amount of time can be a problem also.

The Cubex I tried were the best pellets in my area!

There are quite a few complaints about last years cubex on this board. I too figured it was my stove.

Speaking of moisture in the stove, does anybody cover the stove pipe? I really didn't think much about this until a scraped my burn pot and noticed there was some moisture in it. Would just putting something at the T help or should I do it at the cap on the roof?

I've burned all 4. The Spruce Points were loaded with fines last year. Vermont's or Northern(Cubex). You can get both at D&J for about the same price. Or you can go across the street and get the Lg's for $250. They burn pretty well also.

Cubex had a problem last year and 1000's of tons were replaced for free, it happens with every brand now and again

As a consumer to me that means move on.. They are not the only show in town..
