This is the carb on my deere 165 hydro. Whenever I back off the throttle, gas pours from the top of the carb. There is a hole in the top center (am I missing a jet screw there?). The gas pours from the hole just to the upper right of the center hole.

I have the carb IPL and this one really doesn't match the picture

Am I just missing a screw or is something else going on here?

Float may have come off its hinge, or sunk. Pull the bowl, and have a look! Have something ready to catch the pesky little float hinge pin.

Paging MasterMech...

Go to weekendfreedommachines.com Deere specific forum.

Float may have sunk or is sticking. Pull the bowl and take a peek. May as well clean the jets out while the bowl is off. Like Joful said, have a rag or paper towel under the bowl to catch the important bits.

Rebuild kit. I chased problems in mine for a year.

Bret is right on. Problem is only when the throttle is initially closed? Assuming the tractor will otherwise start and idle fine, that's a plugged vent. Should be either a metal elbow that's connected to nothing (it might have a short length of poly hose on it, it might not). Or a very tiny hole in the top of the carb casting somewhere. Spray it down with carb cleaner and go hunting for it.

If you go hunting for it with a rebuild kit in hand, you can always pressurize it from the inside with the welch plug removed. I could send you a pic if you get that far. Have a 160 at home with the same engine.

Thanks guys, I'll tear in to it tomorrow.

It happens after the tractor is started and I reduce the throttle. I don't think it does it at WOT

The whole crab kit for that cant be much over 10.00. That cover it all.

Looks like it's around $50 for the kit !!!

Is it a 2 cylinder? If its the same as mine I can rebuild it in my sleep. You just keep chasing crap in there until you get feed up! Its worth it just to handle everything at once.

I dropped the bowl and found a bunch of debri floating around. Sprayed everything down with carb cleaner and made sure the float wasn't sticking.

Seems to have done the trick (fingers crossed).

Thanks gentlemen

I hope you didn't hit any of the rubber gaskets? (If you did the next phase of the carb will begin) This is exactly how mine started. I will never use carb cleaner on a carb again. ;)
