Lots of Firewood For Sale...Cheap - $40 (Lapeer Township)

Have to get rid of some of my large stack of un-cut and un-split firewood according to the township. It is however, okay for my next door neighbor to burn garbage, (a matressess and plastic Christmas tree today in fact), and to let every dog on this @#$%! street to bark 24/7. Go figure. Anyway, letting it go for 40.00 a pickup truck load for hardwood (all you can fit on), and for 30.00 a pickup truck load for softwood (outdoor burners and campfires). If you're good at piling stuff up, a full size pick-up can hold a good cord and a half to two cords. Willl have to load you late evenings or on Sunday since I work for a living. If interested give me a shout at 810-six-one-four-7887.

Doesn't look like a pile of firewood to me, not a split in sight. Looks like a pile of heavy yard debris. Probably why the township has an issue with it. ;)

I'll bring the saws. And clean that pile up pretty quick. But he ain't gettin' a dime from me.....

I can't see a full size pickup getting more than a 1/2 cord load, not sure what that guys thinking.
You can do 1 cord + on some real beefy pickups, 1 tons specifically. Being that it's all unsplit, should be pretty easy to get 1 cord (final product) in an 8 ft pickup bed.

Not sure I'd want more than 1/2 cord of green wood in a half-ton pickup. You'd be pushing the payload ratings for sure.

Perhaps the CL poster is thinking in "face cords"?

Most likely he is , that's the way it is here in Mi, if U see the word cord ,98% of the time it means face cord

Looks like the guy is a slob. If he had a larger piece of property nobody would care. Or if he would cut and stack it, again nobody would care. I guess that's what happens though when you live in town.

I sort of have some fun with the dummies with their "cords." I tell them we burn only 3 cord per year and they are flabergasted. Then I tell them that the winter of 2011-2012 we only burned 2 1/2 cord and that really throws them for a loop. Some have asked, "Ya, but how much propane did you burn too?" Then when I tell them we do not have a furnace some have even called me a liar. So, I just call them stupid.

Ya , I should type that out and put it on CL here
Just do what I did. Pulled up one of the many threads we have here discussing the subject and picked a wordy post. Copy paste into the old fake newspaper article generator and viola. Instant funny. ;lol

I saw something when I was searching the net that indicated that in Oregon or Idaho (can't recall which) that it was illegal to sell in anything other than an increments of a cord. It was the legal unit of measurement.

I believe that is the case here in NY as well. I doubt it gets enforced however since CL is full of ads for "pickup loads" of firewood.

I'd tell that township to go eff themselves.I live in town on a 1/4acre max lot, have close to 4 REAL cords of firewood stacked nice & neat underneath heavily shaded processing area in backyard, most all is hidden from the front on a busy street.Including quite a few large logs that are fodder for the Alaskan mill & several stacks of rough milled blocks/slabs for woodturning, other future projects.

Been this way for years & have never had any troubles with the city officials & my neighbors are great too,I'm the one they call to trim their trees & do anything like removals also.

I think if the guy had it stacked and split neatly no one would care.Chances are hes had it sitting like that for a while and people eventually complained.

TO YOU , WAZZU
I think U, R making a quick judgment on a small amount of info.

I posted this cuz I thought It was Interesting , but also ,cuz, I have had similar " bull Sh!t " with ordinances , and considering my secluded location ,It really burns my ass, that other people think they can tell U ,what U should or should not ! do with your property .
Although !! There are a lot of variables here

I think we should identify the type of wood. He mentions 'softwood' in the ad, and indeed it looks like a lot of pine. My bet is he doesn't burn wood and had a bunch of pines removed, doesn't want to pay to haul it to the dump and just let it lay there.

If he was a wood burner that pile would have signs of being processed, and his stacks would be covered :p

Amen Brother!

Being from Michigan, everyone, even serious burners, only know a face cord, and use the terms interchangeably. After being around Hearth.com I am bilingual and do the conversions in my head depending on who I am taking to and where they are from.

Most of the time it is useless to try and explain the difference, it is easier to just speak the language of the locals.

Yes, I think it has something to do with the fire load on the property. I assume it is based on lot size and maybe local ordinances as well. I have not heard of enforcement either.

I'm sure that started from unscrupulous wood dealers. We have one guy who says that the word "cord" has been so misrepresented he only sells wood by palletized single row stacks. 4'x8'x16". At least with that you know what you are paying for.

Don't mean to sidetrack the thread, but these ordinances touch a soft spot with me, too. Funny thing about ordinances, our local township has been 'changing the rules' in regards to building for the last decade.....
Before, you didn't need a permit to build a shed on your property UNLESS it was anchored into the ground (via cement slab, foundation, or posts cemented in the ground. That permit was only around 20 bucks.....no big deal. Now, even the sheds that are build with no physical attachment to the ground need a permit....and that permit is several hundred dollars with all kinds of bullchit stipulations. Found out a local fellow found a way 'round that permit.....he built his free-standing shed and put a 'for sale' sign on it.....no permit needed..
Township stopped to hassle him about it and he said he built it and it is for sale, he's open for offers......he'd like to get at least $10,000.00 for his hard work on his small shed.:p

Township can't do a damm thing about it, either.......>>
