Howdy folks. We're in the dog days of summer here in Montana. It's been hotter than blazes the last week or so. Wildfires have been kicking up and the logging has been restricted to hoot owl hours (have to shut down the saws and equipment at 1 PM). Gave me a chance to get a bunch of wood split and stacked. It's mostly lodge pole pine (my favorite) with some doug fir mixed in that I've been taking home from the pile of cull logs at the work landing. I placed a cold 16oz. PBR on top of the stack for reference. Hope ya'll are staying cool in the heat wave. 005.JPG006.JPG

Nice pics Trundle.....it's hotter than the bowels of satan's lair here as well....
Right now it isn't too bad (88 with around 70% humidity), but last week was miserable. Gonna do some splitting and stacking this evening. heading next door to my parents place for a soak in the pool right now, though.

That's the truth Scotty. The Flathead river gets fed by a lot of streams coming out of Glacier park. It's an eye opener when you first get in there. Got myself a used dog from the pound about a year ago and she's the first dog I've ever owned that doesn't like the water. She'll wade in but refuses to swim. You're right about fall...when I start complaining about the heat I have to remind myself that I'll be complaining about the cold in a few short months. Hope your doing good my man.

Trundle, I hope you didn't let that Blue Ribbon set there too long! Nice wood pile. It must really be dry to have those hours only for cutting! For sure those guys out east won't run into that problem. It is amazing how much rain they get.

Ha! Dennis, I can assure you that the PBR didn't sit too long in that spot. The last few weeks have been hot and windy so it's gotten real dry, real fast. I haven't looked at a forecast yet but if it remains like this there's a chance that we could be totally shut out of the woods. It's a pretty rare occurence but it happened to us in (I think) 2000 when the fires around here really took off. Hope your well and staying in the shade lately (assuming you've been getting this heat).

Pauly. Thanks man. Yeah, that Glacier area is just unreal. I'll try and find a pic of where we were skiing. So fun. Stay frosty my friend!

A buddy and I took a trip out there many years ago. Yellowstone, Glacier, then up to Banff and Jasper. Just incredible, and something you never forget. _g
We're finally getting a break here. Raining now, and temps are forecast to be lower the next several days. :)

Hi woody. Glad you guys are getting a break from the heat. From the looks of it we'll have to endure it for a few more days. And yeah, I went up to Banff a few years ago and it was amazing. Never made it up to Jasper (yet) but I've heard it's awesome. Man, we live on a great continent!

Trundle - great looking stacks! What an awesome place you live in! We went to Yellowstone 2 summers ago and it was fantastic! Warm in July but got cool at night and none of the oppressive humidity that we have back east. Can't wait to get back there and see Glacier also.

Thanks red oak. I agree, Yellowstone is just amazing. I live in NW Montana so I don't get down there as much as I'd like but that probably makes it even better. And like you said, the low humidity and cool nights make the hot summer days a little more bearable.

Thanks Missouri. One of these days I want to check out your neck of the woods. I've never been to the south (well, I was at Ft Leonardwood as a infant but don't remember a thing). Touring through the southern states, preferably in the fall, is on my list of things to do.

You are welcome anytime Trundle. Just be prepared to be a little jealous of all the hardwood we have around here. The same way we are jealous of your vistas!

Spent a couple weeks in Yaak, MT a few years back. That's certainly a beautiful corner of a beautiful state. Tough terrain, tough folks.

The Going to the Sun road through Glacier is spectacular.

That's one of my favorite stretches of road. I've only been there once but I'll never forget it. Was 80 something at the bottom and snowing flying up top.

My in-laws are headed up to Kalispell this week.
