That was either a 40" tree (doesn't look it), or those are some seriously short rounds!

Hard to complain about free wood, though. ;)

nice score! I did some trees over the past two years for a good friend, and did them for next to nothing.......
Well, he had a HUGE red maple that hung out over his house.....It was one I just wasn't comfortable doing last year, and the other day he hired a guy with a 60' bucket truck to piece it down.....

Calls me up just a little while ago and said "hey, you've done a lot to help me out over the past several years, all of this wood down here is yours......come and get it when you can". Good karma I guess. What comes around goes around.....just to keep the good deeds going, I'm giving some to a couple of my other buddies who need some wood for the coming winter. That red maple, once C/S/S into smaller splits, will season by winter or spring......

Very nice score. Gotta like your neighbor.

Good. You can't have too much oak. Nice size rounds. They look aged. Probably easier to split.

How pissed will she be when it's cold out, but the house is as toasty as she wants it to be? Ignore the whining and continue the beatings until morale improves.:p
My wife quit telling me we have enough about 3 years ago (guessing).

Same situation, here. We've got about a million projects going at once, in our old house. Windows out, floors torn up, etc. My wife hates to see me spend any time splitting wood, with so much else to do. The solution is simple, do your firewood when she's not around. Earn your brownie points working on the stuff she wants done, when she's there to see it. Happy wife, happy life.

quick scrounge near work today, not sure what it is maybe maple. wasn't any leaves around, been sitting for a couple years. some punky pieces but mostly good smaller rounds

Nice score. If your other rounds are quicker-drying wood, I would stack the Oak first to give it a head start....unless you are under the gun to get next year's wood dry.

Most of that looks about 16-18" to me....

Got a nice bit-o-scrounge there, USMC. Even nicer that it looks fairly dry, even in the round.

Unfortunately for me majority of my rounds are all oak. Seems everything lately is oak!
