Happened just the other day.
I was gettin' kinda short.
;) @ old farts.

So I see a pile of rounds by the side of the road with a sign, "Firewood for sale." Looks like about 1.5 cords, even split of Red Maple, Black Cherry and Red Oak. I need to stack more quick-dry so I call the guy and ask what he wants for it. He says "I'm not a wood guy, make me an offer." I sez "Well, my stove takes 16" wood, I'll have to re-cut quite a bit of it; How about $25?" "Oh, come on, that doesn't even cover my cost of having them taken down."
;lol ;lol
"OK, $50, but that's it." "Oh, no. I've got another guy that's interested." "OK. You have my number."
He's obviously not a wood guy, and thinks he has a gold mine there. Maybe he'll call, but I hope he doesn't wait too long; A bunch of the rounds were standing on end, soaking up water. Not a wood guy, indeed....

Maybe it's God's way of telling me not to pay for wood. ==c

Have you taken your temperature lately Woody? Perhaps you have one of these crazy Summer viruses going around and temporarily lost your wits....but it's okay, we'll walk you through it.....relax, have a cold drink, take some deep breathes, take a nice nap and hopefully this crazy notion of "buying" wood will disappear. Remember you are a scrounger, and for a scrounger to buy wood you would lose your membership so please calm down! Like Norman Bates said in one of his "Psycho" movies, "we all go a little mad, sometimes".....

We are all here for you Woody-we'll walk you through this "episode".....:p  _g

Ha Ha. Hey Woody for a little joke stop by and put a for sale sign on his precious
wood. 25.00 or best offer.;lol

We have an area that I travel through where they have been going crazy drilling for natural gas and putting new pipelines in. I see piles of wood popping up along the road with crazy prices on them. Like 4 or 5 wheelbarrows worth not split and signs with 65 to 85 dollars. I think these folks got paid so well for the lease on their land that they got stupid.

I love those $15.00 for an eight piece stack at peoples driveways. They're serious.

That's for rich folks trying to escape their fast-paced modern lives for a moment. Does not apply to folks like me that already live primitively. Heating with wood....imagine that. ;lol

Yeah that's for one romantic evening.()

Methinks it is a case of some rich folks trying to take advantage of what they think are poor folks. After all, many do have the attitude that if you burn wood, you must be poor. Somehow, that attitude doesn't bother me but humors me instead.

Yep, until ya start comparing utility bills - all of a sudden ya ain't so backward/poor anymore.

Hard to pass by that mistreated wood isn't it...needs a nice new home where it will be appreciated..;)

I only buy wood if forced or for a good cause. I buy more now than I ever have, but that is another story. I buy some wood from a
friend who will c/s/s for cheap and he can use the money. I have also had him deliver wood to others that needed it...so they
wouldn't know who sent it. They would never have let me buy it for them otherwise.

Woody, Almost Cut My Hair is one of my favorite CSN&Youngs tunes................old fart here ;)

I always 'appreciate' Cherry! May not burn the longest but it's pretty and the smoke smells so good.... :)
Goes against my grain too, to pay for wood but it would be nice to just back the trailer in and load up. Just not too enthused right now to go out in the woods with the heat and skeeters, only to get Oak that won't do me any good for a couple of years. I may have to give some of this Tulip Poplar a try; Plenty of dead ones out there that I could probably even burn this year.

Good on ya for helping those folks out!

Hey, I remember buying some wood once. Many, many moons ago... Hope that will never happen again.

I agree, makes me smile too.

Imagine what lumber would cost if raw wood cost that much.

I think they should calculate the price they're asking for the wood & multiply it by how many trees on their property & tax them accordingly. :)

Wish I could say the same...:( Back just wont let me do what I want to anymore.
I still get out there and get what I can, but I sure pay for it.

For sure and I pay dearly for it too. Still good therapy and I love doing it so will continue even if the price is high. In about a week it will be 66 years since I was hit hard with polio. Early September it will be 29 years since a severe back injury. Late October will be a year since last back injury. Sometimes one has to wonder if it will stop.

Keep at it as long as you can. I have been warned by Doctors to leave the wood alone, but I am just not that smart. Last time I got a load of Red Oak and it put me out of action for over a week. Hard to deal with constant pain all the time, but I guess its here to stay. Gotta roll with the punches... I have a friend who loved to cut wood all the time and was diagnosed with R Arthritis. I told him to stay active and try to keep limber or he would be sorry. He just sat on a couch and didn't do anything....now he cant do anything. I am trying my best to stay as active as I can, but it gets harder every year. Kudos on you for keeping at it all this time...

Well, I went by there today. The wood is still for sale. ;lol

I see stuff like this occasionally. Last year I saw a big tree laying on its side in a front yard with a for sale sign on it that said $75. So, I went back for a closer look. It said $75 per rick, you cut and split. Do you believe that? You can get it cut, split, and delivered around here for that!

For sure you can get it cheaper here! They think what they have is always more valuable than it really is.
