Got a nice C/L Srounge today

Answered a C/L add last night for free Big Leaf Maple bucked to 16" - 18" lengths, he only kept the add up for less than a hour due to overwhelming responses ( that's the way it is around here)

He emailed me back with a phone number, talked with him and said he has about 5 people lined up for today ( 2 trees)

I was the first one there, others arrived while I was loading.Had to wheelbarrow it from back yard to driveway(was not to bad) I ended up filling my truck and left as I knew by the time I unloaded and got back to his house it would be all gone

He has a couple other B/L maples he is getting felled next week and he said he would call me when ready

Smaller rounds on top, some larger ones on bottom 20" - 25" dia avg

well it has a little 22re 4 banger in it that has seen better days, Had to go up a couple pretty steep hills with this load and it wasn't liking it a whole lot. But she held together and got me home

Yeah, I was overloaded. Although this west coast Maple is much lighter than the east coast stuff, I was still pretty heavy with the 50+ rounds my mud flaps were dragging alot on the way home. Unloaded it as soon as I could. Took a break and cooked me a steak dinner

yep, he contacted me today, said tree service well be done about 4 and they do not want anyone hauling wood while they are there, so he told me to show up at 4:30. i think I will show up at 3:30 in case they get done early and hang out 'till I have the ok. Ironically I took all this week off from work, good timing

According to BTU charts i have been looking at Big Leaf maple is close to the same weight and heat output as your east coast Silver Maple. The only chart I found with Norway has it listed pretty high

I really like burning this B/L Maple and try to get it when I see it on C/L / we do not have alot of hard woods out here. I dont see alot of it around my city but the neighborhood i got this at was loaded with it, but what else would you expect from a city called Woodinville ( about 20 min drive / non rush hour time)

I've got LOTS of silver and red maple here in my stacks. It's a lighter wood for sure, but I love burning it. I used mostly silver maple and ash all winter last year (except for nighttime burns) and it heated us just fine. You are right about Norway, it's a higher BTU wood (more like sugar maple). Keep up the good work Elder.....sounds like you'll be getting a lot more of that maple.....

Yes I am 30+ years, dont do alot of side jobs, hell I dont even have a machine at the house

We put side stake sides on one of our trucks at work awhile back, ended up using aluminum c-channel that fit into the stake pockets for the uprights than bolting the same c channel to uprights for the cross pieces. came out real nice

Found that if we welded it all it did not want to fit nice as there was no play to it and played hell to line them up into stake pockets

even bolting them we only went 3 stake pockets wide per side rack, kept it light and easy to get in/out

I hate to repeat what everyone else said but NICE stake truck! I thought that was a hydraulic lift on the back but then I thought, no, it cant be. My Dad was a welder for 50+ yrs.
And great pics! Ive heard talk of Big leaf maple but never seen it. I cant believe that homeowner let a bunch of people scrounge at the same time. I guess those trees were destined to be yours.
We have the same situations here. Alot of people burn wood and there is becoming less and less open land. Scrounging gets cut throat.
Well...thanks for the pics.....the leaf looks alot like silver maple and the bark looks like Norway here.
