Low of 50F tonight... "good thing we're ready honey!"

Was listening to the weather report this morning and couldn't help but get a little giddy. I was yelling the report to my Wife and then stated "Good thing we're ready honey!" she shook her head.

This is what I have accumulated since Nov. 2012, when the same came I stopped because my POS Harbor Freight 7-ton electric splitter stopped working. (Don't worry, Ramsplitter 16-ton electric is on the way!) There are nine rows there (two hidden behind the main stacks to the left of the green fence. Not the best sunlight, but I'm not allowed to stack in the back yard.

With the new BK Princess Insert finally installed, I have no idea of my wood consumption, but I figure with the high efficiency in Coastal CT, I ~may~ have more wood than I need. I really enjoy splitting and stacking wood, I just hope I can continue to find room to practice my hobby. I may have to stop at some point. :(

Unless I go into the backyard (don't really want to as we have a dog and I put out rat poison and other pest/insect control measures) I don't have much space left. The most recent stacks are under a well shaded tree (not optimal) and in the neighbors backyard (he's a landscaper and wood burner and doesn't care). DOh!
 
Don't be pushing winter onto use already, I am still hoping to have a few more months to build up the stacks and get ahead.

Those stacks are a thing of beauty, except for the plastic on top. Leave the stacks uncovered until 1 month before your going to burn them.

I used the clear plastic to what little sun is in that spot still hits the stack. While not very neat right now, when properly laid out it keeps the rain off the tops and I'm happy about that. Don't want anything rotting out with stacks close together and little sunlight.

I'd be really happy with a nice long fall myself, nights getting into the 40s and only needing a small fire in the evening - I'll be burning 24-7 soon enough. We're supposed to get down into the 50s here tonight also, this morning my better half had to shut the windows. And I saw one or two leaves beginning to change color yesterday. Fall is just around the corner for sure.

Don't worry winter never comes early to Iowa and always leaves early too.....now that you believe that lets talk about that prime development land in Florida in between the swamp and the sinkhole.

It was 50 here last night. Ran 0 wood and two windows opened. ;)

Looking at a high of 70 today, bet it's still well over that in the house.

Yep It was 70.6 this morning with a slit breeze. I jump in the car and the ac was still set at full blast. Now that was cold!
 
Their calling for 46° here in central PA tonight......may just fire up the NZ3000 with a small load (yes, windows open, of course) for an ambience fire. That fireplace has a summer bypass control on it so you can let most of the heat go up the flue....

Sorry, fellas......I'm a winter-weather guy (as most of you already well know), I can't WAIT til the snow flies!
(But I do love fall, too!);)

I prepare for winter because I hate it......Once X-Mass is over and the hunting season its time for spring. imho;)

I did the same this this morning. I think today was the first time I have run Henry's heater.

We'll have a fire tonight, 45-48 degrees so some hemlock & pine will be flamed up.

Might just have grab a small load of willow, just to take the chill off, besides it is taking up valuable real estate for considerable higher btu material ( well, I admit it, I need a fire fix)

Nice stacks. With BK that's for about 10 winters already :)
 
Obviously the BK's efficiency is a good thing, but that means I won't get to play with my new Ramsplitter as much. Boo!

Ramsplitter is nice and quiet to use. I was a bit dissatisfied with the build quality on mine, but it is a pleasure to use.

That is an easy one. Don't put out any poison. We've burned wood over 50 years and have never put any poison in or around our wood stacks. Keep the wood dry and you won't have a problem. Only very occasionally do we even find a mouse nest in our wood stacks; most years we find none.

As for the wood being in the shade, I've never been concerned about that and never had a problem with it either.


As for the cool nights, you folks out east are now starting to get what has came through here. Yesterday and today we did not reach 70 daytime. This morning was in the 40's and tomorrow morning will be too. Then tomorrow night's forecast is for 51. I am loving this weather!

There are already predicting near 90 again next week in Boston with humidity . It's been a long hot Summer - but Jack Frost can't be too far away!:)
 
Tony, I see they are also calling for a warm-up here for next week. One day in the high 80's. We knew it would be coming back but I still prefer what we have now.
 
Perhaps I would not have a problem, dunno, but I am in suburbia with close neighbors. If my woodpile became a breeding ground, not only my wife would go nuts, my neighbors would too. My woodpile is not far from their house. So at this point it's poison. No clue what is dead under my stacks, but I've found two dead mice near them and I'm glad I found them before my wife. ;)
 
Ha, everyone is looking forward to the fall, I was in Costco today and they had Halloween costumes up for sale.... But anyways, op should talk to Scotty on what he uses to cover his stacks, you have nice stuff, now protect it....
