Feeling the Heat

Family Farm and Home recently opened a new store a few miles down the road from me. They're carrying Pro Pellets this season. Sale price through 8/18 is $189.50/ton. Their regular price is $219.50/ton, which is a bit on the high side for that brand around here.

I picked up three tons this morning. I didn't count, but they have at least 60 tons in stock. Outside storage unfortunately, but they just came off the truck this week and it hasn't rained in at least 10 days.

I had 94 bags left from last season. About 1 ton of Somerset, some Magic Spark and a few bags of Greenways. I'm sitting at just under 5 ton now. That should be enough to get me through the winter, as I know I'll be picking up more as I run across them on sale.

I believe I met all requirements to be a Pellet Pig this year. I hauled these home in my beater truck, half ton at a time, and while it's been chilly at night, there hasn't been frost yet. If my application is accepted, let me know where to send the membership beers, ummmm, dues.....

Picture attached so everyone knows that it happened. The stacks aren't very pretty as I'm going to haul a ton or so of them downstairs eventually.

Off to get a couple loads of ash that I cut and split at my moms house last fall.... :)

I havent even bought any as box stores are starting late this year, going to lowes now, see what they have and picking up a hybrid water heater

if you have a window to the downstairs, a chute/ramp can make life a lot easier when hauling them down. i use a few bags at the bottom of my ramp to cushion the landing.

Oink!

Good you have your heat for this winter, I see your mil rate is going to 29.5 ug.

Unfortunately I had glass block windows installed a few years ago. I may figure out a way to slide them down the stairs though.

it will if the school budget isn't approved by voters this tuesday.
i really think many voting don't understand the question.

i did that the first year. just watch out for any edges that may rip a bag upon landing.
i use a carpet piece to make a slide on the steps.

we replaced the basement windows. but i left the one into the pellet room as just a wooden hatch that opens inward.

Pro Pellets burn good in my stove.. nice and hot usually. A little ashier than the Somersets, but they are expensive around here..

Also, if you set the bottom end of the ramp on a table or something, ya don't hafta bend over to pick the bags up .................

We use a kiddie slide as our chute. Sure beats going up and down the stairs!

Hoss, I'll have to try that table trick! ;)

Just got the 2 tons I needed for '13-'14 stash in yesterday.....5 tons ready to go.

The pile on the left will be filled with shoulder pellets I still have to bring in from the shed.
