i got some on amazon, not the cheapest but did not have to go anywhere.

Its impossible to buck a 2' log with an 18" bar unless you cut blocks out of the end. Meaning you cut halfway through then you noodle that half off so the saw can get closer to the part to be cut.

Wow. I'm glad I never knew that and I don't cut blocks out of the end either. I even cut a 24" log last winter with my brand new little Stihl 170 with a 16" bar. Did it just to see how it did and it did fine but most I did with the 290....and it has a 16" bar. Used that same 290 on that 31" ash we cut last winter too. Shoot, I've been doing it this way for years.

The belief that a bar has to be as long or longer than the diameter of the log is not true at all.

I guess you missed my post 2 after that. I had a brain fart and lost ability to do math. I dontthink you can only cut wood the size of a bar. I have cut 40+" oak before with a 20" bar.

Clem, maybe a brain fart again. More than 40 inch round with a 20 inch bar is going to be hard to do. Sorry, I couldn't stop my self.

Nope there was like 3 inches of wood in the center that I broke with either a maul in the cut or a pry bar I don't remember. But true I did not actually cut through it.

Yup, and I can cut a 32" diameter tree with a 16" bar. Actually did a 34" one time. Just like Clemson though, some was hanging on in the middle but it did not pose a problem.
