The issues I've had was a wheel bearing seal that would ride up over the axle shaft....

I called Speeco, and I told them the nearest shop had a 6 week waiting list for service...they sent me a complete wheel / tire combo complete with bearings and seals to try (fixed).....FREE. Also had a couple of hoses leak (fixed under warranty), and the throttle linkage fell apart (red lever)....fixed under warranty, then fell apart on the trip home....don't bother with the lever any more. Did find that all the bolts holding the motor on the mounting plate loose (tightened)....gotta check them again next time out. Only had one round that it couldn't split, don't know for sure what it was.....I was told Sycamore....but it finally split it 6 months later.....can't beat it for the money

As mentioned, SpeeCo (Huskee) customer service is very good if you need it. There are many posts here and in other forums documenting this.

My Huskee 35-ton splitter was one of a few units in 2009 that mistakenly shipped with the wrong type of return hose. After a few months it was bleeding hydro fluid through the hose walls. I called SpeeCo and they sent me the proper hose via expedited shipping.

The bad thing is that the final assembly of Huskee splitters at TSC depends on the particular TSC employee who puts them together. The main things I've noticed on these forums is that there is sometimes a loose engine bolt or hydraulic hose clamp. I'm fortunate that the two closest TSC stores to me have people who know what they're doing.
 
I wish I could add something. I only used mine the one time. I lost the pin driving down the road that holds the saw in horizontal position. About a $5 mistake maybe. It fell out when transporting.

I heard Briggs engines aren't the best, but I don't think that's any major issue in normal use.
 
If you have used it for a day already, go thru and check EVERY nut and bolt. Then check again. Then check regularly.

I had to throw a bunch of parts at the BS engine last year. I think the mounting bolts loosened up a bit, which junked the lovejoy, which made some serious vibration that tore up the fan housing and dipstick tube. Not happy.

I checked everything the first few times, but slacked off because everything was good. Stay on it.

The genius that assembled it didn't bother to put a hose barb on the tank return fitting, just jammed the hose on the 1/2" nipple. I didn't notice that right away, but I did get the manager to give me a new return hose and a hose barb a couple of years after purchase.

Those are the only issues I've had. I did talk to speeco a couple of times about it. I didn't really get anywhere, but they were friendly enough and explained why the couldn't really help me. I have no problems with that, and would buy more of their products.

I had the exact same thing happen to me this summer. If the Briggs ever dies ill probably replace it with a Honda. Has anyone ever done this to one of these splitters? I'm sure it's not difficult but the Honda gx is a vertical shaft
 
The engine is built specifically for the splitter. I know the crankshaft is an oddball length, and something else I don't remember.
 
No issues with mine at all. It still starts on the first or second pull. I will say that I trailer mine everywhere instead of towing it so that may help on the vibration issues. I just picked up a 4 way wedge for it yesterday. I hope to try it out today.

I want a 4 way wedge. Where do we get that? Does it work ok when splitting white oak or more dense stuff???

I have my doubts that it will be great for really dense larger rounds, but should be great for anything under 12 inches in diameter. One and done with nicely sized quickly drying splits
 
Had to replace the lovejoy at 2 years. I have used it for 2 more years now and the replacement still looks new. No loose motor mount bolts on mine.

I have gotten to like the small fuel tank on the briggs. I fill it full, run it till it is out, stack the wood I split, take a break, and start over again. And at the end of the day I will split till it is out of gas.
 
Yeah, I filled mine up to the brim, it actually lasted long enough for me tonite to do what I needed to do....
 
Part of my pre-split routine is to check all bolts...only takes a few minutes. I kinda like the small gas tank, when it runs out of fuel it's time for a break;)

Make sure the set screws on the Lovejoy's are tight. Mine weren't and grenades after a few days.
 
Ok...but what is a "Lovejoy?"
