So Cent ALASKA
No moose but had a good time.
The legal bull were up high, (well above tree line)
we went up & looked around, but were smart enough to not pull the trigger.
Saw sheep , 3 grizzlies & one nice legal bull straight up from camp in the spotting scope.

20 years ago, we'd have been killing ourselves packing one out.
We dined on blueberries & took some pictures. :)
Was a good hike to do once with a empty pack, , but not 6 times carrying moose parts.::P

As long as you enjoyed yourself that's all that matters. We do get smarter about where we drop the game as we get older. :)

Your part of the world I would very much like to see, the fall colors are I do enjoy . When do you start getting frost to kill the bugs ? The area where you were camping when would it usually see its first snow?

Few bugs while we were there this year, was a good frost there a few times already.
Depends on the year, been there & the bugs were horrid (same time of the year)

Snowed just above tree line , but melted while we were there.
About 4 weeks & snow will be where our camp is until Spring.
If it gets clear, I've seen 20° there on the 5th of Sept.

With age comes wisdom. That, and aches and pains that prohibit long pack outs. ;)

Blue berries. That's why the bears are up there, they spend all day eating blueberries.
Ate so many, if you followed my tracks for a ways, the scat would look like bear scat, well all but the TP ;) ;lol

They can shove all that wisdom where the sun don't shine,
I want my 25 year old body back LOL ;lol

Haha! Yeah, I'd like mine back too, Dave. Amazing how fast that part of our lives went by. And we didn't even appreciate it at the time. Chit!

You guys keep "watch" at night for unexpected visitors? I've had black bears at our site twice, and I am starting to second guess my love for camping. Beauty pics though!...I bet we'll see some snow pics from you in a few weeks.

No night watch. If they come around, human is not on their food list. We don't keep any food in the tent !
We take care to keep a clean camp & burn or bury food scraps & stuff with odor.

Bears here, unless in parks or protected areas, tend to steer clear of people.
But the young ones sometimes come around. Blacks mostly.
Can make a real mess
But they hang around a bit too long afterwards.
