Does anybody know if that bit a out the 090 not being sold new in the US is true? I'm pretty sure it is not.

I was with red. The age that thing g looks I doubt there were any EPA regs on chainsaws? And if its one owner and not sold here how did he get it? Bring it from Brazil or Germany when he came?

I doubt he can get $1000 for it!

its a scam, stay away. its all over the country on CL. probably comes from Nigeria with a sick uncle needing to rescue his sicker grandson ...

I haven't seen this one before. Figured if it was a scam they would have listed it a lot cheaper.... must be getting tired of working so hard for their money.

I mean what's an 880 cost? Has to be that or less?

090's were sold in the US back in the day. Biggest Stihl saw produced. And the Chinese are STILL cranking them out on a daily basis as we speak, but they aren't legal in the US because of emissions (and possibly black market, maybe?);)

No way would I pay what some people are asking for them, though. There is one for sale locally on CL for $1000.00. It looks to have been rode very very hard and put away soaking wet!!

Crazy. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to own one, but I ain't spending that kind of jingle on it.

Are the Chinese ones actually stihl or copies?

Seen that site. Wish I could get some stuff there. Cheap stuff for trow away prices.

These saws come up here periodically on CL for a lot less than that (usually from $800-1200, they go fast though). They are commonly used for log milling though, and that is really hard on chainsaws. There were the AV and non-AV models. They were produced for north American sales between 1968 to 1985 and they were sold here and in Canada. Story is that Gyppo Logger (crazy but cool guy up in the Yukon) bought the very last new one sold in Canada. They were also sold a lot more recently in NZ an Oz. Some guy wanted 3 grand for a new one he bought in NZ a few years back. Some were reported as being available from Stihl dealers in remote places in Oz as recently as last year.

OEM top ends are were unobtainium on those, but aftermarket 090 top ends are available from China:

I do not endorse the above site in any way, just info here (and they at least take PP).

Problem even if its legit is that you have to order a co trainer full of the stuff and deal with customs and then have it trucked to it place! A logistical nightmare. I was looking at tractor attachments and tires on there a few years back. Cheap loaders and bush hogs and tires but I don't want 10 bush hogs and to deal with customs and having to sell all the stuff just to get mine.

Yah, they sell them in lots of 100 because they do not have inventory and wait for orders to crank them out. Several people obviously bought lots of these top ends and sell them by the each on Ebay for $75. Also seems that OEM 090 top end kits are surfacing on Ebay for about $300-400 a set. So buy an 090 with a blown P&C and good bearings and low end? I dunno, I have no need for anything bigger than my 066.

Yea the biggest I want as of now is 90cc. I want an 066/660 or a 395xp now.

The 372 just made thirsty for more when I finally ran it.

I had a 395xpw and it had gobs of torque but lacked the speed. Was also heavy. I like running the 066. Does not seem like the size that it is (compared to the 460 which I found to be less manageable). My 066 is woods ported though, and so it has more power than the stock 395xp. 395 was smoother, but its a Husky, and I sold all my Huskies and kept the Stihls. I have a J-red now too, but its a pre-Husky J-red. And it only cost me $20. ;)

That seller is full of crap.Lots were sold here back in the mid-late '70's,for a while they would be a worthy competitor to the Mac 125 stock model, but not the 101B kart engine model. The 090 was 7 pounds heavier, only 14cc bigger with less speed,a bit more torque & equal horsepower.

I had the chance to buy a very good both mechanically & cosmetic 090 from ebay seller in Oregon in early June for $785 including shipping to my door.I hit the Buy It Now,apparantly someone else did the same thing cause there was 2 listings for the same saw - ebay glitch. Now I know the seller is a standup guy cause I bought my mac 125 from him in April & cant be more pleased with it,described to the letter what few flaws & all the good points it had.

Told me "Don't pay for this, its an ebay glitch they listed it twice,I'll have another for you before too long, thanks for understanding...."

I almost bout a MAC 10-10 (blacktop auto) here the other day. Clean one, local owner, not abused. But I refrained and then went and bought a low hours Stihl 036 to make up for it... damn Stage IV CAD!

I presume that was not Tarzan Zip Lines in the Portland area? He has had this 090 on Ebay like, forever (for 4 grand, says its "museum quality," but so is my second 361...):

He sells a lot of juiced 880s that I would not touch. Seems overly-proud of his biz, I have never bought from him. His business is a home address.
