I should be thrilled at the high-60s, early 70s highs during the day and 40s-50s lows at night this time of year. And I should be thankful this very pleasant weather pattern will apparently hold in my area through mid-October. BUT I am going out of my mind waiting for it to get cold enough for me to justify getting the first fire going.
:ZZZ
Am I the only one? Do I need a support group!?!

Calm yourself, it will get cold. I promise. ;)

If it gets too bad for you open a few windows, and fire up your stove. Just use some dry maple:)
In your area you'll be burning in a month or so right?

We've had a few nights in the lower 40's this week, and I'm still keeping some windows open because I know that I soon won't be able to. I've had little fires in the morning 3 or 4 times already.

We have reached the lower 50s several time and hit 46 one night but the wife kept me out of the kindling. Soon enough....

I know what you're feeling because I installed a new Jotul F600 late last February and just got to burn it a few months leading into spring. Fortunately, we had a cold spring, so I got more time to become familiar with the stove. However, we didn't have any long cold snaps where it stayed below freezing, so I haven't yet loaded the stove full to see what she can do. On the other hand, anticipation has its own pleasure, so I don't mind waiting for it to get cold enough to burn again. So far we've only had lows in the lower 50s, so no temptation yet to fire up either stove. I figure some time in the next month or so and I'll be loading a stove!

I've said this before, but I have been buring all summer long! I turned the AC all the way up to MAX COLD, and then lit a fire to take the chill out.

I've been shoulder burning off and on for a couple of weeks. Trying to burn a stack of semi-punky crap before it gets wet. Woke up this morning to 32 deg., re-lit the fire I let go out last night. I get tired of re-lighting fires because it's too warm to keep it going 24/7. I also hate using so many firestarters (in the basket).;) I need to get out and gather more while they're still dry.

We are getting close to 24/7 burning up here.
According to the weather network, our next two weeks are lows of -2::C (28::F) and daytime highs of 14::C (57::F)
But so far, just a small fire before I leave for work in the afternoon, and that will keep the house warm until the next day.

Patience for sure. I don't mind those fire starters but seeing that torch just has never looked right for starting fires. Nope, it just is not right. ;)

No, you don't need a support group. All you need is many years of wood burning. Then you can fully enjoy the warm days we get every fall. After 30 years or so it just doesn't bother you to not have a fire at night.

Right or wrong does not enter into the calculations. It lets Heidi start a fire in about 2 minutes when I'm not there, and that keeps her happy. Priceless.:)

Maybe you should surpise Heidi with some Super Cedars?! My wife has always had a problem starting new fires. Then I got some samples of the Super Cedars from NWfuels and now she does just fine, and it is a whole lot safer too. And if sometime you want to have some fun, take a super cedar out on the boat with you, light one and then lay it on the water. Don't tell anyone what it is and folks will go wild trying to figure out what can burn on the water. ;lol

The first year with a new stove brings on the itch even worse - I as others have been there, burning the stove shipping pallet(spruce) to do one of the first break ins.
It's best to just get them out of the way cause when the temps drop and you want to get it up and cruising don't want to be fretting over damaging your new baby;)

Still 80 here today - I'll take the cool mornings and nice afternoons for a bit longer.
Last Tuesday I was up in Cape Cod and it got a bit chilly - smelled a wood stove or two while out browsing the shops - all the remedy I needy to resist picking up a real estate book

Several people around me have built a fire or two, but I just put on a sweater or an extra blanket at this time of year. We'll be building fires daily soon enough! A good fire in the fire pit is nice this time of year though for sure!

We'll I didn't get the fire pit going last night after all. Instead I processed some of my firewood for next year. Splitting and stacking was a fun fix for now...

Your thinking is not warped. Its sort of like Neo and the Matrix. The awesomeness of wood hobby was always there, but we could not see it until our minds were freed by Morpheus.
