Stove Recommendation - two story

Great forum. Glad I found it.

I was raised around wood stoves (have a Quick Meal' blue porcelain that is still burning wood and cooking food) but need to find a replacement for the other side of the old cabin. The Quick Meal sits on the original part of the cabin (one story and about 650 square feet and the old girl can sweat you out) while the replacement will need to warm the other side of the cabin which is two story/800 square feet - 1,600 square feet total? The cabin is insulated I might add.

I do have existing black pipe and insulated pipe through the second level and then insulated straight-pipe out the top of the roof. Just need to pick out a new stove.

Looking for a fire box or cast iron or combo unit recommendation. Not looking for a high-dollar model but rather a budget friendly workhorse around $400, $500, $600. Possible? Before I run off to the super stores or local stove shops it would be very benefical to have some recommendations to carry with me.

Notes:

We burn good hard wood. Mainly ash.

As a bonus if I could find a until that holds a fire longer that would be great.

Welcome to Hearth.com. Where are you located? Your pricing is in the bargain basement of stoves. if you can go up to the $8-1000 range you will have more choices, especially for longer burn times. Check first to see if the current hearth is up to spec. It may need supplementing or a redo if not.

Or take a look at the Timberwolf 2100 and the Pacific Energy TN19. Both are a little larger with an easier hearth requirement. They sell in the $7-800 range.

begreen - thanks for the welcome and taking time time to write a recommendation. I'll be sure to take a look at each one. Much appreciated. As far as the Quick Meal I'd be happy to post a pic. But it wouldn't be for a few day or maybe even 10-days as the cabin is two hours away from my
permanent location. I honestly believe the original part of the cabin was built around it.

I was going to recommend an Englander stove as well. I haven't owned one, but based my opinion on reading these forums. I would have opted for an Englander if they had a large enough model for our house.

I got a chuckle out of fossil's comment. Ha. Englander recommendation looks really good. Did some research on it last night. Also found this stove on CL last night but I don't think it's nearly as big as I need. Anyone have an idea of what brand of stove?

Ok…unless something catches my eye on the shop floor, I’m looking at ordering one of these two models. While we have 1,800 square feet (first and second story) to heat I think we could get by with the Pleasant Hearth if that is a better choice over the Englander? Experts – which one? Thanks.

The PH has a much larger firebox width and height and is only 10,000 btu’s under the Englander. Am I missing the point?

I understand they will ship for an additional fee. Summers Heat, TimberRidge, and Englander are the same stove rebranded by England's Stove Works in VA. I don't have any experience with the PH product. I see several references on the forum. I can't seem to confirm firebox size?
I own the insert version of the stove you're considering. It's a good value @ MSRP and REALLY good @ $399! The price includes a blower fan too.

Update: I was able to have a store here in NE match the price of the Summer's Heat 50-SNC13 from Ben's Superstore. It's arriving in 10-days! Look forward to installing and takeing a picture of the Quick Meal. I'll be back.

Woohoo, good deal! Keep us posted. In the meantime, what will you be using for a hearth? The 13NC has a high insulation requirement for the hearth.

I've got a pre-existing high temperature tile hearth that should work well. Plenty of room around it. Will look at existing insulated pipe that run's through mid-level and out top of roof. Ready to burn some wood!

The tile is not what is doing the heat protection, it's the insulation underneath. Do you know how the hearth is constructed?

Concrete backing board. Fairly certain as a corner of the tile is chipped off. Good? Bad?

Ok. I finally have pics of the old QuickMeal as promised (not porcelain although) tin? Also, thank you for the Summers Heat recommendation! We love it! I could have went bigger for a quicker warm-up of the house but the model we purchased at a discounted prices is perfect. Holds a burn for a long time with three year old seasoned ash split wood. Thank you very much from my whole family!
