Hi all,
I just purchased a used Harman Accentra pellet insert that I am about to install. The unit did not come with any cleaning accessories (brushes, burn pot scraper etc).

I know there is a lot of experience on this board so I figured I would ask..

What are the recommended tools to buy and a good source to buy from? I looked around Harman's website but can’t find part numbers for the cleaning tools.. and not sure if there are better ones out there?

Any help is greatly appreciated! I am reading many of the postings here to get up to speed!

you can use a flat headed screwdriver or chisel as a replacement for the scraper tool. you will need the brush..#3-40-00126... check local Harman dealer.

Welcome! You're right up the road from me (I'm in Newmarket). Fallons Hearth and Home in North Hampton should be able to help you with any Harman cleaning tools, as they are a dealer (the closest one to you I believe). I also like using a fine wire brush for when I take the heat exchangers out for some of those heavier ash pellets (fireside ultra does that to mine). Give me a holler if you need any help on your install.

Go to you tube and watch video on how to clean a Harman. You will see what tools are common. Exchanger scraper, long handled 2 inch or so paint brush. Stove glass cleaner that's ceramic safe and some paper towels. Ash vac or shop vac with drywall or other good filters. Pellet venting brush and extensions.

Jimmy probably has them right in stock.......and yea, this brush is a necessity to properly clean the tubes....the scraper really isn't tho, and you can use a putty knife, stiff brush, etc for the rest....

Thanks guys!! I appreciate the help! I will post once I get this stove up and running!

Make sure the exhaust ports behind the removable cast iron plates are clear all the way back to the exhaust blower. When I bought my used accentra insert the left side was completely clogged. I had to use a toilet snake to bore through the ash/soot blockage. Just be careful of the thermo switch when doing this. I also found a ridiculous amount of dog hair matted to the bottom of the combustion blower, probably why I just had to replace it last year. It's a great stove, congrats and enjoy the heat!

IMHO get yourself a gasket scraper, available at SEARS. They run about $25 for a set of three sizes or about $12 each. Works perfectly for scraping your burn pot - and much better that the OE scraper.

Not being Accentra specific, I find a good small flashlight to be indispensable for cleaning. Stanley makes a great LED tripod flashlight. Walmart usually carries them around the holidays. Even better would be a clip on led flashlight with a flexible gooseneck. For pot scraping, I use a flat head screwdriver. Just focus on keeping it from gouging the metal so you don't give the carbon more places to grip.

Paint brush, flashlight, vac, and for scraping you can either find a Harman specific tool - or go to the hardware store, buy a flat piece of steel 1.5"-2" wide, about 18 inches long, curve it some and grind the end to a dull edge. The Harman tool is nothing special, and I never use the devil's tail on the accordion, as the paint brush cleans those just fine.
