Planted a "Liberty" apple tree five years ago. This is the first year I have gotten a harvest, almost a bushel. We had a late freeze in May, so I was happy to get these. Only 6 blemished ones, and 4 culls. I grew this variety because I have cedar trees around the area.
I am really delighted with the taste, kind of tart and juicy, the way I like apples.

Thank you. Took some of the seconds and made apple crisp!

Looks good. We had an apple tree in the back yard when I was growing up and couldn't figure out why we never got apples on it. A neighbor told dad to spank my butt and make me stay out of the tree. He did and we started getting apples. ;lol Same with the peach trees.

Nice harvest! Liberty is an excellent apple - pretty bulletproof. What pollinator did you use?

Thanks! Liberty is self-pollinating. Since it is just me, I didn't need huge yields.

Sue, that is great for only 5 year old trees. Brace yourself. In a couple more years you will have an abundance! Enjoy it too.

Hard to simmer apple butter, or anything else, on an insert:)!
I make mine in the crockpot overnight an Christmas Eve. Get up and the house smells unbelievable. then I put it in jars, process, and pack 'em up to go to my nieces to be distributed to the relatives.;)

Ohh, I haven't made honey butter in years. My husband loved it. this was before "soft" margarines, I used to make it with margarine when we couldn't afford butter.
My brother to this day refuses to eat apple butter. Back when we were kids and my mother was still making our lunches, she made apple butter and butter sandwiches for our school lunches EVERY DAY FOR TWO YEARS. And the apple butter was the store variety that had little taste outside of the bitter spices in it. When I made apple butter for the first time to satisfy my husbands wishes, I was amazed at the difference. Can't convice my Bro, tho.
