Not sure if you guys over the water have ever seen this but i got a small score over the weekend and there was some red stuff coming out of it like blood.

It was a Gum tree so i am not sure if its part of the sap or what but it gets everywhere. Had to wash my splitter afterwards.

Also put a picture of one of the twins feeding a king parrot on the deck from the weekend.

Weird wood sap for sure.
Great pics,

Looks like apple butter. Strange stuff.

Maybe a body crammed in the tree. You live in an amazing country Auzzie. Parrots on your deck! That's just cool!;)

You wouldn't happen to live in sleepy hollow, would you?

If you let that dry you have some great fire starters in that wood, what you have there is probably Fat Wood, Highly resinous wood great for starting fires.

Is that a pet bird or a wild bird that is just that tame?
Its a wild bird - i call him George and he is normally accompanied with his better half Mildred. They come all year but especially in winter. They will come to our bedroom window and tap on the window and let us know that they need feeding.

I have seen this stuff in the wood a few times before but not in as big a quantity.

Thats a good idea - just need some means of getting it out without getting it everywhere.

Even your friggin' wood is freaky!

I'll bet Australia must lay claim to 9 out of the 10 strangest ways to die in the woods.

That's cool, both the pet wild bird and the 'bloody wood.'
Thanks, I've been wanting to call something "bloody" (in an English accent) for quite a while now. ;)

The bird. She's talking about the bird. Sheesh. ==c

I split some eucaplytus wood I scored when they trimmed trees on the highway near Scott's Valley, CA. The sap looked just like blood and lots of it. Even freakier was whn I left I in the in and the sap looked just like dried, clotted blood. It was really strange.

Where are you located? Was that tree a eucalyptus?

Yes it was a Eucalyptus - i'm near Melbourne - Australia. 90% of my wood is Gum.

Eucalypts is my first choice in firewood. It burns hot, leaves little ash and seasons fast. They grow tall and straight. It's like cutting up a telephone pole. For that reason it splits and stacks nicely too. The only problem is you get a lot of splinters when you handle it dry.

That tree with the blood sap was different than the trees I am used to. Beiderbecke the frisky sap the bark was really thick and looked blue in color. It burned hot like the eucalyptus trees I normally cut.

How many different types of eucalyptus trees are there?

Over 700....... !!! but some are very similar. the abourist told me there were over 40 different types of Mountain Ash which are prevalent around here. Like you say the majority of them and straight grained and grow straight too. Some are very hard to split, but have benefits of being very dense and burn long and give out plenty of heat. This one attached is from some land i used to own.
