I want one.

Gotta love having a "beater" car to get back and forth to work cheaply . . . even when the "beater" car is in pretty good shape and hasn't been beat to death.

That's not going to pull a horse trailer.

Nope, its not. The Beast can now sit in it's preferred place in the driveway, and be driven when needed.

Goodbye $80 - $100 a week in gas, hello $25 - $30 !!!

I hear ya. If I didn't only drive five or six miles a week anymore, that 454 Suburban would have a little buddy sitting next to it in the driveway. May do it anyway. I am in shock since the old 1985 refrigerator died a week and a half ago. The new one is using 1/3 of the electricity of the old one. Need to get me a car that uses a third of the gas of the 'Burb.

Thats only half worn out ! Might check the stats on the coolant flush or water pump replacement milage, heat is the #1 killer of them alum. head 4 cylinders.
The mpg,s will be liked.

New appliances are highly energy efficient , usually. Good move, there.

Putting minimum insurance on the Lancer. A win/win, me thinx.

I have always gotten a kick out of car insurance companies. I always have just bought liability and they always come back with that they have to tell the lender I don't have "full coverage". To which I reply "Go for it. I paid cash for it. You can tell me.". On the Burb when it was new they kinda sorta didn't believe me. Surprise!

I paid cash for the F250, I hear ya there.

When I closed on this house I had to bring the car titles to the closing because the mortgage company didn't believe the cars were paid for. >>

I did too, on a refi.

Really stoopid chit !

We are clearly married to different women. We also pay cash for our cars, but after watching my wife total three consecutive cars, I always carry full coverage. She had one brand new car rear-ended by a plow truck doing 35 mph (she was sitting at a stop sign waiting for traffic for more than 30 seconds, he somehow didn't see her) at 6 weeks after driving it off the dealer's lot... $26k in total damages, they repaired it. That was only 7 weeks after she had rolled her SUV on I-476, totaling that. The car that replaced the one rear-ended by the plow truck did survive her tenure, but she managed to nail two deer in separate incidents, 6 days apart. She was doing 70 mph when she hit the second deer.

My bride drove head-on into a old Ford LTD in my brand new Dodge Lancer from a turn lane. The emergency room and surgery bill putting her foot and leg back together was a lot more than the cost of the totaled car. Car = $12,000. Hospital bill = $35,000. Lawyer in the lawsuit = $16,000. He actually got the thing dismissed.

I hear ya.

Good looking get-a-round. I am heavily considering loosing the truck and getting a fuel friendly car. I still have the jeep for tow duty (3500 pound trailer and fishing boat). If I could do anywhere close to an even trade it would work out in my favor. Buying a car and getting rid of my paid for truck doesn't make the numbers work out.

Congrats Dix. Hope that baby gives you many good miles. Find out when the timing belt was last changed. That is an interference engine. You don't want to miss that change.

I doubt I can get that info. It's off of a car lot.

Ask the car dealer for a carfax report on the car. That should include some service info. When does the manual recommend the timing belt be changed?

Research shows it should be changed at 60,000 miles.

I read an article on buying second hand cars last year and the lancer received a glowing report. keep on top of serving and it will serve you well..

ps, i've never bought a car with cash, but wish i did...i have always financed or leased a new car then sold it 3-4 years later then start over. its a vicious cycle...

Ready to rumble. A lot of pep for a little car! Best part was $30 filled it up _g

And also note that, no, you cannot have my wood stacks :p

Congrats! I am a firm believer in owning a big truck (or two) and a small car.

Driven this car for 100 miles in 2 days.

So far, so good.

I am of this philosophy as well . . . the gas guzzling truck is parked most days . . . but when you need it to haul the sleds, ATV, firewood, lumber, furniture, etc. it is quite valuable. Meanwhile, the gas sipping 4 cylinder is the daily driver (and surprisingly enough . . . half of the cylinders and many still tend to have plenty of get up and go.)
