I let the Ashford go out and fired up the Cape Cod last night for a little change in pace.
I know its probably to early to ask this question because you haven't really had time to break the ashford in but which one do you like more.

It's gonna be a hard one. The ashford has a nice fire, but can be reduced to nothing at the turn of a dial and still have a clean burn. The Cod has a beautiful fire and heats really well, but has only half of the burn times from what I can tell so far. Once it's cold I'll do a little head to head challenge.

I see in the ad at the top of this page it shows it with the door handle and bypass handle on either side. Can you get it this way or is that just some of that fancy trick photography.

It's just for the add, the handles are on the right hand side.

It seems those BK's burn an extreme amount of wood. How the heck do you guys keep up with that?

What does BK say the burn times are on the ash ford compared to chinook?

What? I have never heard that before, in fact the complete opposite! Where did you get that info?

The Ashford has the same 30 hour burn as the Chinook. Of all the stoves I have ever used the BK have been the easiest on wood. It's common to only load them once in a 24hr period, compared to 2 0r even 3 times with many other non-cat stoves.

Here is a pic of that same wood that I started last night. This is a current picture of the stove about 17 hrs into the load.

I put in 4 small splits and get 8 hours out of it. I would not say that it is eating wood.....

That is on low tho.

Fantastic. What's the outdoor temp?

One of these days I need to take a trip out to Walla Walla and visit these folks. I like what they are doing a lot.

Yes, but two things;
1. You load them with 2 or 3 times the amount of wood, especially in the dead of winter.
2. Your not getting those 24 hour burns in the dead of winter, then your reloading twice a day like the rest of cats. But I do love the long burn rates / low heat output for the shoulder seasons, like now for example.

It is in the mid 40's right now. It got down to 38 last night.

Your seeing 40 and lower in Indiana now? Your further south of ny, and we are in the 60's. Weather channel has been showing the same for that area? Are you in mountains or something?

Im not putting 2-3 times more wood than other stoves. It's only 2.75 cubic feet! With my King I did get 24hr burns in the dead of winter.

A front just passed through, heading east now.

Nice, love that area, gorgeous!

I'd love to see BK make a soapstone stove.... That would be the shizzle. Seems they are on the right track, making more attractive stoves....
