Feeling the Heat

I just got my princess installed noticed that there is very little variation in the fan speed between low and high. you can hear and feel a slight difference but it does not seem correct. With my old englander there was a huge difference between high and low. Is this normal or should i get a hold of my dealer?

Do you have the insert? My princess fans get much louder between low and high but they are always quieter than the englander's fan. Don't expect to hear them roar.

The fans are very effective at moving heat on the lowest setting. Not much more effective on higher settings.

yes, i have the insert. There must be something wrong with them then because there is very little difference in sound and no difference in air flow from low to high.

I think the rheostat knob isn't turning all the way. The last Princess I installed had a little catch in it about half way around. Give it a little more muscle and I bet it turns on the rest of the way.

it turns the full range without catching anything.

i called the dealer today. They are going to call blaze king and see what the voltage range is for it and then i guess we will go from there.

Yeah, there is a noticeable difference between low and high on mine though I always run it on low as that does the job.

Are you sure it's turning all the way around, I'm not doubting you, just be sure. I've never heard of this issue.

yea, the line on the knob is goes from off (fan shuts off) all the way to the words low on the the sticker on the side of the stove.

Give your dealer a call, they will take care of it. Other than that what do you think so far?

Pretty darn impressed.

I have been burning 4 year old tulip poplar and i am getting 14-16hrs burn times with more than enough coals to get the next load going. I am not experiencing a tremendous amount of heat output due to the tulip poplar but 14-16hrs on poplar is amazing. The old englander would have went though a stuff fire box of poplar in 4hrs.

Friday i loaded the stove at 9:00pm before bed and did not load it again untill 12:30. When i woke up at 7:00am my downstairs was a 72 degrees and the upstairs was at 65. So i turned the thermostat up to the third dot (had it set at the 1st dot over night) to get some more heat out of it. Got it up to 78 downstairs and then turned it back down. It held in the upper 70s downstairs until i reloaded at 12:30.

Last night i loaded it up with tulip poplar again but i used smaller pieces and set the thermostat to the 3rd dot. It was loaded around 8:30pm and when i woke up today around 7:00 i still had a lot of coals and heat left. the house was 75 downstairs and 65 upstairs. I just raked the coals around and loaded a bunch of small ugly pieces and am going to let it run hot for a while to try and clean the glass of a little.

I am going to post some pictures this afternoon.

Wood species seems to be a non-issue with these BKs and burn times. You could stuff cottonwood in there and get 20 hours.

Yes, they were designed and tested with NW softwoods.

What about balsa wood ? ...........heh ==c

I had a bad rheostat on my first princess insert. Factory tech told me it's not uncommon, as they are pretty cheaply made. Hope you love your stove.
