Buying My First Set of Wood Furnaces Need Help.

I m looking this will be my first wood furnace, I have a Older home and a 2.5 car Garage to heat. I was Looking into buying two of the Drolet Tundra's From Rural King for 1799.00 each, plus cold air/air filter kits and shipping total was about 2200.00 each. I found a local dealer for the Blaze king Apex but hasn't called me back yet for a Price. I Haven't been able to find any reviews or videos on youtube for the Drolet Furnace or the US Stove Company 8500 Pellet Furnace But I know Rural king has it for 2,299.99. I wanted a Pellet/Wood Furnace that was EPA rated but Don't have a Very large budget, I'm looking to spend around 2500.00 Max on each furnace but Only one furnace per year. Tax Time.
I'm currently heating with Natural Gas and want to add on to the Furnace in my House and have a stand alone in my garage. I was going to run a New natural gas lin to my garage since I don't pay very much for natural gas, but it would be expensive to run a new line with another meter. Currently I pay 0.57 Per Therm on natural gas. I have access to 20 acres of Black Walnut Trees Providing no termites, But there are people in my local area selling seasoned fire for 75.00 a truckload.

If it were me, I'd probably go with the Nat gas for the garage - keeping two furnaces fueled can be a chore. But that's your lifestyle decision to make.

I don't see where Pellets are going to be for you if you have access to both cheap wood and cheap Nat Gas.....that's a general statement, of course!

So basically you want a clean burning hot air furnace - with a decent size firebox. The firebox size will determine how long your burn time is at a certain output.

Before you buy anything, you should consider having a heat load calculation done on the house - so you know how much heat it needs in "x" weather conditions. This was you can do some other calcs and determine what the actually input and output you will need is.

Insurance co likely will not allow you a wood burner in the garage. I'd save your money for a year and buy 1 GOOD furnace, look at the Kuumas, their info is in the other wood furnace thread that you posted on. Their small one is $3900, the big one is $4400

Well I know Im not paying much for nat gas, and I'll chk with my insurance company there pretty laxed on demands. I will have to see right now I have no money Im just researching. My Current Bryant furnace is about 10 years old but it a 95+% eff furnace, Biggest things with my home is it was built in late 40's and I need to have insulation in my attics removed and New put in. So This First Tax season in our house were going to fix what we can,

Money spent on insulation/air sealing pays you back forevermore...that's a good investment!

Well Insurance Company's only Requirement is that the unit be professionally installed, Not a Big Deal I'll install it and have my local hvac company put the chimney liner in and do the duct that I buy for them. They just asked that it gets cleaned, But also Said they would want to know what kind of wood im going to be burning Not a big deal there either.

Your kidding? Th insurance co wants to know what type of wood you will be burning? With a modern wood furnace, it simply doesn't matter what type of wood is burned. As long as the smoke is being burned in the firebox, there's less risk for creosote.

Yah, that's a new one, huh?! Some Ins Co's kinda balk at a wood burners, but most won't allow one in the garage! Heck, some don't even like outdoor boilers, but these guys are fine with a burner in the garage! (as long as you have document the serial #s on each piece of wood )

Yeah, Im Just going to see if my Natural Gas Company can run me a New Line with a New meter,and run 2 30000 btu mr heater ventless natural gas heaters when I need them. As far as the House I'll eventually buy another high eff furnace, although there are allot of brands I'll probably go with carrier, trane or bryant but it will have to be at least 97% eff, My Current condensing furnace is I think 95% but it atleast 10 years old. We Just bought the house were Living In and it needs some Work, So New Denim insulation with some radiant barrier, Soffit and Facia venting, New siding with insulated board. I've got a Lot to do and I'll save the money from the furnace Idea and try upgrade my house for now, Before the System crashes or Gov shuts down again.
