Not sure if the picture is gonna come thru, been having problems with my Photobucket, and I know the rules about "Pics, or it didn't happen". The same tree service dropped a bigger load off last Fall, and I gave him a call for the heck of it.....after dumping this, he said "call if you want more".....gotta get this cut and moved soon......I just got the yard cleaned, and now the Wife is not happy with this load sitting on the lawn

Agree with Tim. Nice neat load. Cut it and move it

Aww, you'll have that out of the way by lunchtime.

wish I could find a tree service around here that would give it up.......

Beautiful looking ash logs and some oak too. Crane harvested? Not a spec of dirt? Nice. Looks like about 3-4 cords there. Those big logs stack the splits up fast. I also like the short loads myself. You don't get buried in the rounds and spend more time getting them out of the way than cutting. I get mine laid out parallel to my driveway so I can roll them out into it and cut there. Might be a little effort to get them rolled out but it is a lot easier on the lawn and cleanup is easy too. I also get the most ugliest lopsided log or two placed in the driveway on my 6x blocks ready for cutting.

any tips for calling tree services and getting free wood?

any tips for calling tree services and getting free wood?

Guy was dropping a couple of trees next door for my neighbor. Based on a prior conversation with the neighbor, I approached the tree guy and mentioned that I was open to taking the pine logs if he would cut them to length for me. On our second or third conversation, he mentioned that he occasionally finds himself with a full load of wood in his truck and on the way to another site. Either he has to detour and dump (and pay to dump), or find another place to leave the wood.

So we made a deal...if he found himself with a truckload of hardwood that he needed to dump, he was welcome to dump it at my house. He knows the length I need, and I have offered to reimburse him for both gas and beer. We'll see what actually happens. :)

Others have posted their experiences in contacting tree services proactively, in other threads.

Sweet! Years ago, a housemate ran a framing contracting company, mostly sub-development work. Whenever the homebuyers wanted their lots cleared, the tree guys just brought us the wood, since they knew we were burners. Ah, the good old days! Now, I have less than a half acre and have to get creative with both finding decent wood at a good price and figuring out where to stack it.

nice load............should be able to cut it up and at least get the rounds stacked and out of the way fairly easy
You would think:oops:......I only have about 2 hours a day at best.....gonna have to hit it hard this weekend, but I've got 12 hours of O/T coming up, so that leaves Sunday.....gotta run errands on Sunday....so we're back to a couple of hours a day....as long as the weather cooperates:rolleyes:

That is a nice load. I would not complain if that was sitting in my yard!

I'm gonna try to find time tomorrow to brush the snow and ice off a few of these and get some saw time in.....oh yeah, and break in my new Chaps. Any tips on cutting in these conditions ???.....I'm gonna try to avoid climbing on them.

Make sure your gloves don't get slippery comes to my mind. The rubber sticky ones might be in order.

Do you have a Peavey? You need one if you don't. Hint to your wife, a 5' one would make a nice gift.

Small?! Who dos I got ta bribe, or marry to gets me one of dem 'small load' o logs?==c Great scxore and delevered makes it even better!;)

20" Bar, still takes 2 cuts to get thru most of them....

Thanks, got the Rubber Coated Gloves (those things are sticky, for sure)....and a Peavey would be great.....I'll tell her you said so (be ready to duck !)....I do have a birthday coming up next month;hm......I do try to take into consideration what might unintentionally roll....don't want to get a leg or ankle crushed.....

I had a similar size load of spruce to process on a slight incline, I always stayed uphill of my piece. Can't see if you have that issue or not.

I'm also deftly afraid of the logs shifting and getting crushed or having a round take me out as it is coming down. I get mine laid out flat and roll them out one at a time for cutting. The slight incline works to my advantage in moving the logs. A peavey and prybar along with the logs being on iron stringers makes things pretty easy, unless they are lopsided. Ugliest logs are delivered directly onto the cutting deck. (took me 12 years to figure that trick out.)

IMGP9791.JPG IMGP9788.JPG 11/9/13, Short load of White and Red Oak, Hickory, Ash and one lowly piece of Sycamore. Stacked up at just over three cords with cribbed ends.

Like I said, might be more work getting the logs out into the driveway but the cleanup is simple with minimal lawn damage.

what did I tell you about ear protection! Nice looking. Looks pretty straight forward. Cut, roll into a nice stack out of the way.

I think thats a fun way to learn to work a saw. You arent tripping over limbs criss crossing every which way. No tension or compression wood. If the saw gets pinched you dont have a whole tree to get off of it.
No leaves or brush to haul off.
All meat and no bones.
