DSC_0191 (1024x447).jpg So a few days I’m ago driving along a road near my house and I see orange tape tied around several large trees and I says to myself “I wonder if da gonna to cut dem trees?” then proceeds to forget all about it. Yesterday I’m on the same road and there’s a tree service contracted by the state to cut and trim all the marked trees. I stop and ask: “What you boys gonna do with dat wood?” Man say: “We gonna take it to da dump.” I say “I’m closer dan da dump and it’s free to dump at my place.” Man says “I’ll ask da boss.” Boss come over and he ask “How much wood ya want?” I say “I’ll take all ya wanna give me.”

Next thing I know is I’ve got a mountain of wood. 3 truck loads so far; one load of gigantic silver and red maple logs and 2 loads gigantic of oak! Some of it is rotten in the center but most is good. I have 2 problems: 1. How will I handle the gigantic stuff? 2. Will I live long enough to process it all?!?

All in all it cost me $25 to da boss and $30 worth of Bud for da crew. Da'd give it to me fur nunnon but dat ain't right!DSC_0190 (925x1024).jpg

Looks like rental time. Get it all whacked up to length, then rent a splitter for a weekend.

Yeah Jags you're right, I think it's rental or borrow time. My sledge and wedges may have more they can handle. I'll bust some by hand, you know to get rid of my winter weight gain!;lol

Congrats!
Well, you've got enough saw for the job. I second the splitter rental, but I'd add in also renting a buddy for the weekend (or even just an afternoon) to help move the big'uns. A long spud bar might be usefull unless you have a Cant Hook or Peavey.
Take care cutting on the pile!

Wish I'd find a score like that on this end of Route 8.

They moved into Kenton county this afternoon, white trucks. Maybe you will get lucky!

High class problem! Keep in cahoots with those fellas and you may never need to scrounge again. Nice score.

It doesn't get any better than that. Free and delivered. You just gotta ask and you shall receive.
Just like striking GOLD! Nice job. Just take your time and pick away at it.

1) How you handle the big stuff is one log at a time. With your 441. And a Peavey (or cant hook). Don't be afraid to run a 25"-28"-32" bar on that 441

2) Without a doubt, yes. Just start. Work on that pile a couple hours per week and before you know it it'll shrink to nothing.

I've got a 28" on her now and I checked with the Stihl dealer earlier today and he has a 32 bar and chain available should I need it.

Nice! Even nicer that you have the room for all that to be dumped at your place. Just keep picking away at it and eventually it and your winter weight will be gone.

Nice score, Ralphie- and you obviously know how to get those tree guys on your side.
Well done! You can do this.

How to eat an elephant? One bite at a time.;)
