My 4.5 tons of LG`s softwoods are sitting just outside the rear garage . I always buy early, especially so this year.
Paid $20 more per ton this year ( $269 per ton + $59 delivery ) but should be (hopefully) better pellets. It`s a nice feeling knowing your heat is secured for the coming year.

I've got 6 tons of Okanagan DF stacked up in my basement. I picked them up myself 1 ton at a time to save the delivery fee.

I agree that knowing I am immune to any potential shortage next winter is comforting.

Wow, the luxury line of pellets ! You're gonna like those. Hope you got a decent deal on them.

It's all relative. I got a pretty good deal compared to what these pellets sell for elsewhere. These pellets are quite expensive relative to other varieties out there.

I know they are. Best price I've seen is 360 a ton you pick them up.

How do the LGs compare to the Cleanfire Pacific softwood pellets. Will I notice any difference? I burned the Cleanfire Pacific last year and like them a lot. A ton of LGs are $15 less than a ton of Cleanfire Pacific. I was going to buy 4 ton and I usually burn 3 ton.

You hope the LG's are better than what brand pellet ?

I found the LG's to be similar to La Crete except to burn a bit faster, so it took a few more of them in a given amount of time to heat the same conditions as the La Crete ( single digits at night low teens in the day, NW wind through out this time period, heating to 73 deg).. A little bit more ash as well. I think the faster burn rate was attributed to a smaller pellet size but then it was a while ago and I tried a lot of different brand pellets so that part could be inaccurate. I concluded that I would buy them again but if I could get LaCrete's I'd rather have them. Not knocking the LG though.

In my boiler the LG's left ash turds, which I didn't appreciate. I only burned a ton of them. They also had heavy fines, which isn't a big deal to me.

Btw they were $254/ton in Feb. Now I believe they are $259/ton in So. ME.

LG are $292 a ton here , this years price. Next seasons price is uncertain. But the dealer won't have them till Sept anyway . Right now they are still selling the Energex Premium Softwood at 6.50 a bag. Good enough for the shoulder season, I've burned 28 bags of those this spring and have two bags left. Its about all that is in stock around here right now. That and DFs at some stupid price like 9.50 a bag.

DFs are $6.90 near me.

Well this is Cape Cod, it goes with out saying it will cost more here just because that's how its always been here for most items. You would think that bridge had a big tariff attached to going over it. But it doesn't, just appears to. Its shipping more so than merchants gouging though.

I was trying to follow the posts and it looks like you were referring to the Okanagans. Is that correct?

$360 a ton, even if they were delivered seems like an awful lot of money for a ton. I'll be buying 5 -6 tons of MWP blend for $250 a ton with a flat rate $10 delivery charge sometime in the next two months.

Also TimfromMA, how much do you figure you spent on gas picking up the pellets yourself?

Geez guys.. sounds pricey...
I bought Energex Hardwoods pre buy at 250.00 ton..
Even the Energex Golden Premium Hardwoods 0.05 ash were only 20 dollars more.
[ Get back to ya'll this winter on that low ash claimer..lol]..
Guess it depends where u live and what the dealer pays for shipping..
Energex plant is Upstate Pa here..
Appears the Big box stores is pretty much consistant at 219-229.00 ton for Stove Chows, GS and such..
.HD sells lower end Pellets and although ashy, keeps most people warm enough.
I even spring for a ton of chows at those prices..Plenty hot pellet...

Yes Okanagan DF and it is a high price! Delivery to Cape Cod is expensive generally speaking though. I have an email in to Sandri right now about bulk vs bagged and delivery to Cape Cod. I don't think even know if they will deliver here never mind the cost. But they do not sell DF, it would be something other than those.

.Most of us on the Cape pick up our own. There is no such thing as $10 flat fee here on inexpensive pellets. Maybe $90 or $100 but not $10. Ya you can get Spruce Point delivered by the ton same cost as picking up but you pay the bag price. Its difficult to get a deal down here. Not complaining mind you, its just a fact of life if you live here.

Energex hards are 292 here. My wife priced deliver to our town 17 miles from the place we get them. $90 for three ton delivery. So we been picking them up. Same price for LG or for Energex Soft.

Yeah I guess all economies are local. If you have to pay a lot because you have no other choice but I've never seen the logic in paying top dollar for so called premium pellets. There are a plethora of options where I live and most brand name pellets can be had for 250 - 280 a ton or you can go the big box store and pay about 209 -219 but the are also pellets in my area selling for well over $300 a ton. For that kind of money the performance difference had better be blatantly obvious or it's not worth it in my mind. then again I have a boiler and not a stove so maybe it's an apples and oranges thing.

I'm always looking for the best deal. That's why I emailed Sandri. As far apples and oranges thing, x amount of btu I imagine takes x amount of pellets The boiler will distribute the heat more evenly though.

Good luck with the LG's. I burned them this year (3 tons) and won't buy em again. In fact I posted a picture on another thread of what they looked like. More like wood chips than pellets.

This was not my experience with them. They manufacture them at more than one facility maybe ? Or by chance yours didn't get wet did they ? My only negative was competing with La Crete they burned abit more quickly with a little more ash as I stated someplace around here.

Since u have a Harman, it;s prob why your expirience was better..
Deff not knocking other Brand stoves, but seems that Harmans can handle low end pellets better....
I base this on reading 100's of Posts here on the matter of Pellet quality vrs type of stove used...
not a science but an observation and guidline...
I have burned HD's Stove chows 229.00 which I KNOW FOR A FACT are distributed by Energex here in Pa..
They look Identical but the smell [burned or un-burned] is different and size is not concistant..[little Crunch sound once in a while]
Lot of ash, but light and fluffy and they are very hot....I'm glad that HD lumps them together with some of the crappyier pellets they sell cause it keeps the price the same.. shhhhh...
don't tell them.
so why do I spring a bit more for Energex also? same as everyone else..
I think I'm getting a better grade of Pellets.... I was a newbie this past winter but now I feel i'm a pro so we'll see this winter how they all stack up.
may end up getting 4 tons of HD Stove Chows and calling it done for the following winter IF the difference isn't that much in Performance or Ash quantity..
btw: I had a bag of pellets where somewhere in the middle they got damp...
burned them anyway[Newbie then] and my Heat exchanger looked like someone threw up on it...
Damp Pellets are Not your Friend!!!

Ok then! Well I just posted over in the pellet fuel forum about a place called Pellets Direct. They seem to have some options and while a little expensive on delivery it is flat fee. I also called them and left a message to see if they deliver to my town.

Energex Hardwood is definately a better pellet than FSU , Imo. I have not burned Stove Chow though. Something to consider.

More Ash but ya gotta shop vac the stove now then so no biggie.
I just use the harman tool and pull the ash away from the burnpot few times a day when it build up.
some call Chows a Shoulder pellet but used them during the friggin polar Vortex this winter and stayed plenty warm...Not well insullated house either.

How would you rank Stove Chow compared with Fireside Ultra's ? Because I feel Main Wood all hardwood from TSC are better and cheaper than Fireside Ultra. So that is a good gauge for me.

As to your earlier Harman comment, I think I could chip up cardboard boxes and heat my house with the P61 !!

Burned a bag or 2 of FU''s... wouldn't buy again but can't remember why... it was in my 1st month or so of having a stove..
