I had a little roadside score today. Picked up 4 oak rounds that were on the ground too long but plenty worth picking up. There were also 5 rounds of the stuff in these pics. In case the pics are not conclusive, this stuff was a royal pain to split. It was really stringy and was like hitting a brick. The heartwood is yellow.

I agree with Richie. Hickory. Good stuff.

Excellent! The Hickory was 25% on a fresh split and the Oak was 23%.The stuff was clearly sitting for a while but the Hickory is in much better shape. I'llr esplit and check again,of course, but is there any chance I'll want it for this year or should I just throw it in the '15/''16 stack and forget it?

What about Mulberry? Looks more like that than Hickory to me, that's an awful lot of heartwood for Hickory.

My hickory doesn't have that much heartwood so mulberry might be a good guess, either way looks like you got some great firewood.

Thanks, guys. Looks like win/win. I'm just going to put it in the '15/'16 stack and forget about it. It looks like either is a two-season dry.

The mulberry I split was more of a mustard colored heartwood but regardless they are both good like was stated
