Have new stove for 1 month that was bought online. Ran great for 2 weeks 4 bags or so. Did not run it for a week and now I am getting saftey smoke alf1 after about 1 minute on phase 1. My flue is not blocked and only 12 feet long. My hopper switch is not the problem. There is a small area of door gasket 1 inch max that appears to have some burn damage otherwise no other ideas as to what may be the cause. Any help would be appreciated. If anyone knows anybody in northern Wisconsin that works on these also would be great. Thanks.

Where was the unit purchased from?

Something definitely off if door gasket is burnt ... Was a magnehelic gauge used to set up the stove?
https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/piazzetta-monia-opinions.92768/page-4 Pascal's instructions for WC setting

There have been some problems with seating the rear baffle plate ... any troubles?

Other thread to read through...

Thanks. Bought the stove on E-bay from a place called stoves 4 less. I did not do anything besides install the flue and light it up. Like I say it ran great for 4 bags. No trouble with the rear baffle plate. Have had it off a few times. Wish I had found this form before I bought this. Would have got it from a dealer or got something more low tech. I know there is suppose to be a 2 year warranty but dont know how that will help me if I cant get someone out here to work on it. Very frustrating. Anyway still accepting any advice from anyone. Thanks.

When you say your flue is 12 ft, how many bends does it have? Also, did I mention to drop pascal maertens a note.

flue has 8 ft vertical a 90 degree bend then 3 ft horizontal ending in a masonary chimney. Yes I intend to try and get Pascals opinion. He seems to be the go to guy. Thanks

Where exactly in Northern Wisconsin? Found three dealers on the Piazzetta site just using Superior, WI: http://www.piazzetta.com/dealer_finder?zip=superior, wisconsin
The Stove Works in Hayward; American Fireplace & Heating in Minocqua; Great American Fireplace in Menomonie.

Hope that helps...

I am close to Minocqua. I actually called them last Friday. They told me they do have a guy that works on them but because I didnt buy the stove from them they werent sure if they could help me or not. Pretty much their exact words. Said they would get back to me but have not heard from them. Not yet ready to beg but might have to soon. Thanks again.

Okay, you bought a "new" stove or a used one off the internet? I'm guessing used since the door gasket is already blackened. It can't have gotten that way after just 4 bags.

If it's used, what was the condition when you bought it? How old? Any pics?

Have you unplugged it and let it sit then replugged it in and restarted it?

Is the seal where the exhaust vent connects to the Monia good?

stove was new in the box. The gasket is blackened in the spot where the 2 ends meet maybe half inch of gasket on each end. I did unplug it once for about 12 hours. It is currently sitting unplugged as I am away for a week. Hoping to get home next week with a few other ideas to try before really getting desperate for someone to come out and look at it. Atleast propane is cheap this year. Exhaust vent gasket is good by the way

Hey sorry I tough I had answer to this post. One thing that could be causing this, in the back of your stove showed by number 3 in this figure there is supposed to be a cooper cap nut make sure it in place and hand tight properly If not in place, the pressure switch that is also connected to the hopper and the auger will send alarm to go on, it depressurise the pressure switch specially if it's an used stove they might have tried to set it up and forgot to put that screw back in place. if not and still having problem message me.

The cap is on and hand tight. I did just purchase a magnehelic gauge online so will get it next week sometime and be able to get some pressure readings. I know in the manual it states alf2 message is related to pressure and I am getting alf1 reading. The stove is a new one by the way. I am currently away and get home mid week next week and hoping I plug it back in and it works but probably wishful thinking. Thanks for the reply and Im sure Ill have more Questions for you. Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanks that will be very useful. I am also wondering if there is any way to bypass what ever it is that is shutting down my stove just to be able to get it lit. Would technical bypass accomplish that.
it's part of a normal extinction procedure it takes time but it has to, if in a hurry you can bypass this procedure yes with the technical bypass, that is the only reason for it to existe lol.

and I'll be adding a little more note in that sticky post soon!

if you have a hard time setting it once you get your magnehelic, let me know I'll be more then happy to help you with this.

what is the model of your stove ? Monia, Sabrina or is it a P-series ?
My stove is a Monia. I have narrowed it down to something related to the hopper switch. The stove will shut down after whatever amount of time I set the 11p to. The switch itself is ok. I have even tried removing the wires from the switch connecting them with copper wire and still shuts down. I figure it's either a bad wire or something wrong with the board. Do you have any other suggestions. Also is there any way to bypass this switch so I can start the stove. This is a safety feature I could live without as I don't intend to run my stove with the hopper door sitting open. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

11p has noting much to do with this issue 11p is only the number of seconds you can leave the hopper door open
I would check the settings of

1p set to 30 minutes for Ignition time ( maximum time to end "START PHASE I" and end "START PHASE II" )
2p set to 5minutes for Flame stabilisation time
13p set to 43 Celsius, temperature of the smoke probe for passing on start phase II
  • what is the stove status when it shuts down? ( in stove stat menu )
  • are you sure that all of the components are really working?
  • do you know how to make a cold test of all components?
if not: https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads...e-a-to-z-recommendations.147362/#post-1984013

have a quick look at the pdf file I have attached see if Programme 1 to 15 are the same
do not change from P16 to p22 if you do not have no experience and no manometer hooked.

I get an alf1 status. From the time I press the on button the stove will shut down ( smoke safety) at exactly the amount of seconds I have 11 p set at. The stove obviously thinks my hopper door is open but it is closed and the switch is functioning so I am thinking it must be a problem beyond the switch either in the wiring or the board. The stove is new and worked fine for 2 weeks then started doing this when I went to start it after not running it for a week. Could it also be some computer glitch and is there a way to reboot and start over. I will do the cold test but everything else appears ok but of course my stove will only run for a max of 90 seconds if that is what 11p is set to. Not long enough to get ignition but auger does start

I can give you this reset code but I dont think this will fix the problem here it is the procedures:
go in - Parameter menu - Data Bank - the reset code will be ( o0 ) letter o and number zero

if cold test end out to be good on all components then everything is pointing to that hopper switch and related. These stove travel a long way to America and I have seen once loosen cable on mother board.
Because your saying that you did bypass the hopper switch by connecting bot wire together,
can you now double check to see if all cable are in place with the diagram I attached you below
if they are... I would,,, one by one, unplug the cable related to the hopper switch, to the pressure switch,
and use an oms meter to check them individually, this procedure will take a few hours need to take the grid and tree covers of, gee I which I'd there to help you.

if everything seams ok, let me know how tings goes

sorry for the french version but you can have this Monia Diagram in your owners manual
Thanks again. Everything ok with the cold test although during test the alf1 reading appears along with test. I've checked the wiring just by eye as well as I can see no loose connections. My next move will have to be a test on wires but I have to get a meter. I think I have one around somewhere. By the way I also hotwired the wires to the pressure swith thinking that might be a problem but no change. On an unrelated note I disconnected the hose going to the pressure switch not taking note that there is 2ports. Could you let me know what port it attaches to. The one to the back of the stove or th one to the front. Thanks. I'll be in Florida this week so no stove needed but I could be desperate when I get back.
