Two questions about sealants. What should I use to seal the edge of the block off plate? Furnace cement? Silicone? I'm not sure silicone can take the temperature.

At the top of the chimney where they sit the plate, what you're of sealant should I use there?

Thanks!

Silicone for both applications. Just don't use it directly on the liner thru the b.o. plate.

Just standard silicone? Or a special high temperature ?

Either will work just fine. For peace of mind just use the high temp.

Regular silicone is ~400F, high temp is ~500F. Both will work fine for the perimeter sealing of the blockoff plate and the top cap. I like GE Silicone II.
