Myself, my husband and our 2 Jack Russell Terriers live in Point Pleasant (Upper Bucks County) PA on River Road (Rt 32) in a civil war bank barn. Our home use to be barn for mules when coal was shuttled by barge on the Delaware Canal from Bristol to Easton. It is built on literally, a vertical wooded acre and for years, trees had fallen and we gave the wood away. We never thought we would install a wood stove.
Halloween 2011, we had a freak unexpected ice/snow storm that knocked down A VERY large double trunk ash tree behind our house and pulled down 2 others before it hit the ground. It was a miracle it missed our house by only a few feet.
Like many in our area, we were without power almost a week. In an old house with well water and oil heat, we were not prepared. Making matters worse, trees had fallen just north and south on River Road so we couldn't even get out to get supplies.
It was then that we decided we needed to install a wood stove, especially since we were going to have a lot of wood we would eventually be able to burn. We read every review online, went to all of the show rooms in the area but in the end, we bought our stove, a Majolica Brown Napoleon 1100C from a friend that was moving to Florida and it was installed on January 17th 2013 by a local company.
Any advice, tips or best practices for all of the things you all have learned by trial and error are appreciated! It is a big learning curve as this is all new to us!
I do not use twitter or facebook but my Linked In profile is public if you care to see what I do for a living other than tend my stove
