I'm a Canadian living in Japan. My wife and I recently built our own house (well, part of it). We couldn't afford a completed house, so we partially finished the first floor, and did all the second floor (minus electrical) by ourselves. We put in woodstove on the first floor (Napoleon 1100C) with the ceiling open to the second floor, and the stove pipe extending up into the second floor ceiling.
