My first wood stove was an old kitchen stove at our farm in New Hampshire. I spent a lot of time chopping the family kindling wood and later the wood.
I now live in Connecticut and have continued to burn wood my entire life.
I used Vermont Castings stoves for the past 25 years with good luck until I tried to use their Defiant NC stove. . I started before CAT's, went to CAT's and then tried the Non-CAT Defiant. The Everburn was a disaster for me, creosoted up a perfectly good chimney and I threw it out after three months.
I looked at just about every stove on the market and finally settled on Hearthstone, soapstone stoves. We purchased and installed the Mansfield and a new SS liner to go with it. From the first fire the Mansfield has been great! It keeps our open house with 2400sq/ft and lots of cubic ft. very warm: 70's. It also is easy to use and keep the secondary burn going with no smoke out the stack. Great Stove!
There is just something about the time of year when you come into the house and smell the stove and with it the home.
