Newly installed (thursday) avalon insert. We ran power up the old cleanout using BX cable, a metal box, etc. just like the installer said to prior to installation. I ran a shop vac and a makita grinder together for 1/2 an hour straight the night before prepping the opening of the fireplace for insert. It worked fine.

Insert gets installed. Guy tells me the blower will kick on after stove gets to temp. We wait, wait, and more wait. Finally after 3 or more hours the blower kicks in for 30 seconds and then shuts down. 2 hours later the blower goes again for 10 seconds and stops. 2 hours later same thing. Nothing since then and the insert has been going strong the whole time.

We have power, the blower does work. Any ideas what is happening and can a motivated homeowner fix this? Would love to hear some suggestions. Thanks!

We have the Avalon Ranier and had the same problem....my fix was to bend the plate for the Thermostat Sensor so that you pretty much have to wedge in into place.....it seems that the sensor has to make a good contact with the stove......it does take some time for it to fire up once the stove reaches temp.

A few questions here:

The sensor is located on the right side of the insert looking at the stove?

What do you mean by wedging it into place?

Contact as in touching the stove?

How long does it take for your blower to kick in after you start a fire from cold?

Once it comes on how does it work? Does it go on and off or will it stay on for extended time?

Anything you could tell me about this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Our Sensor was mounted on a plate that looked like this __/--__ ...I placed it into the hole to the left where you mount the blower...but tucked it around the inside corner so it doesn't get in the way....I just put the plate between my fingers and squeezed enough to give it a little bit of a bow. I'm not sure exactly how long it takes to start the blower, but it does take some time....might be 15-20 minutes.....and it will run till you shut it off, or the stove cools down.....I've seen it as low as 200* when it shuts off....that is, if we have the same blower.....one switch....goes to high on start up....turn more for lower speed.......I can tell ya....that blower is a bit noisy, but what a difference it made

I bypassed the snapdisc sensor so that the blower can run anytime I want.

Also another option

My Buck has a 2 position switch, up is thermostatically controlled, down is just plain on. Takes at least 20 minutes for the stove to get hot enough to turn on with thermostat.

I'd temporarily bypass the thermostat just to test.

How does that get done? I would prefer that.

Owner of the shop where we bought the insert came out today and replaced the snap disk on the insert. He left, I built a fire and in twenty minutes we had warm blowing out of the insert. Darn thing came on only 4 times last week for about ten minutes each time. Now we get to see what this insert can do.

This 1 takes about 20 min's also and doesn't shut off until the stove is just warm to the touch.

I just replaced a snapdisk today and the package I pulled it out of said 120*. Judging by the last one's performance, I'd say that is spot on to when the blower turns on.
I ran the blower manually most of last burning season. Much rather would go in auto.

Huge difference when we installed our blower....the stairs leading to the bedrooms are right across the room from the stove, so it moves the warm air right where we want it
