I'm into my 5th heating season with my St Croix York pellet insert and overall I've had only a few problems. This year, however, I'm having a problem with the control panel. It takes a long time to adjust the temperature settings. ( if they will adjust at all) It also takes forever to power the stove down. You have to continue to push the button for 10-15 min until you just happen to hit the right cycle. Also, when the stove is on the #5 setting, it shuts itself down with a flashing #2 light after about 1 hr. The stove runs fine on settings 1-4. Any idea on what the problem might be? Bad control panel, thermostat, etc.?

Mine gets balky once in a rare while. Unplug the stove for a minute or so, then restart. That works for mine. Also, depending on the thermostat status (if you're using one) the control may not respond.

The #2 is loss of vacuum - sounds like your stove and vent are ready for cleaning. Check the combustion blower vanes while you're at it. Make sure the ash traps are clear, too - all 3 of them, if you have 3.

And, welcome to the forum!

panel is probably locking you out. Either a bad gasket or bad pressure switch?

I'll add that when there's an error sensed by the control, it won't respond to the front panel, per the instruction manual.

The stove was completely cleaned in Aug of this year, and again it runs just fine on levels 1-4. It's on level 5 that's giving me a problem. I have tried unplugging it and restart, but then it comes back up on level 1 and takes forever to get it back up to 4.

It will pause for 2 minutes at each level on the way up, so you should have less than an 8 minute wait to get to level 4. You can time the feed cycles, they are listed in the manual, so you can make sure it's on the right level.

I'm wondering if your combustion blower slows down when it gets really hot - a long shot, but I can't think of any other reason why you'd lose vacuum only on heat level 5, unless your venting has some restriction. You have cleaned the stove, but I didn't see anything about cleaning the venting and the termination.

My stove doesn't pause at any level I can push the button right through each step 1-5

Yes, the lights move right away, but the feed rates (at least on mine) change every two minutes, when going to a hotter setting. I have timed the auger feed times, and the blower voltages, to confirm it. You may notice the blowers speeding up as the feed rates change.

Once I can get the lights to move, they will move right away as long as you keep pressing the button. It's only when you delay that the lights freeze up. It could now take 10-15 min before you can get them to move again. Bottom line is that the stove is 5 years old and it's used 24 hrs a day from Nov - April. The stove is professionally cleaned every season. I think the control panel just needs to be replaced.

OK, I found out that the control board on the St Croix Vista has been replaced with a new model. The old board # was 80P22348B-R. The new board # is 80P30523-R. Now this control board looks completely different. Does any know if this is a direct replacement, as far as the wiring is concerned, or if modifications need to be made?

To clarify my previous statement - the lights will move as you push the button, but the stove itself does not go up in level(s) immediately. For instance, if I go from level 3 to level 5, it will take about 4 ½ minutes to get to level 5 (2 minutes 15 seconds X 2). It will go to level 4 (it may or may not take the 2:15 to go there), stay there for the 2:15, then go to level 5.

Even in 'stat mode, if the stove is idling because the 'stat is satisfied, and the HI level is set at 5, it will take 4 steps to get up to level 5, pausing at each for the 2:15. I have timed it with a stopwatch, and while monitoring the feed times. I initially thought the stove didn't work right, but I eventually figured out what was going on.

Sorry, I can't help with the replacement board question.

As far as I know St Croix went w/ a universal control that has instruction for setting jumpers/DIP switches for each unit.

I have replaced the old board ( DHC3000 ) with the new board ( DHC4000 ) and my stoves work like new. The new board is a direct replacement and all of the existing wiring matches up. The new board has more features than the old board. This board is a new universal replacement for all St Croix stoves and contains 4 programs. After you install the board, you need to program it to your particular stove model.
