The temp was kind of mild here in upstate NY today and this morning I had a quarter of a hopper of pellets left, so I turned it on Hi and went to work, thought that would help clean it out a little.

Came home at 5 and found the house with a smoke smell and the entire glass was covered in black. so bad that you couldn't see through it. Usually i can clean the glass with windex. I had to scrape this with a razor blade.

I am not sure how this happened. Never lost power. i cleaned it up and ran it again and the blowers are all working fine.

Any help would be great.

thanks

Maybe more info will help. The stove exhaust goes out the stove then tuns 45 degrees and then goes out the wall and then has a 45 degree turndown on it. The stove is 3 years old and I have never had a problem with it. there is an oak installed.

Never leave any pellet stove unattended while it is in start up!

How is that possibe if you have it set to on/off with a thermostat? Mine is left alone all day long (and all night) and it starts up probably every 1.5-2hrs.

Dont get it either. My Quad in the shoulder seasons will stop and start prob a dozen times a day. Only a few of which I am home and awake.

Whole reason for a stove with an ignitor. The automation and ease of use. Although the Quad gets no use as of now. The furnace is set to FuelMiser and will shut off after 45 minutes of no call for heat.

No worries.

no hopper was empty

Most stoves can have issues when the pellet level drops below a certain point, this exposes the exhaust path to indoor air moving devices and any chimney effects. Smoke spillage can occur under some conditions.

You might also want to check that your OAK is in fact sealed to the air intake and that the igniter wire hole is as well.

As the pellet feed becomes erratic the stove will go out or almost out and then pellets will hit the pot smolder and relight, this can generate a lot of smoke.
