I bought these at the local TSC. I can't identify who made them. I even tried looking up the UPC, no luck.

I also read that pellets should be stored inside. These pellets were in the yard, wrapped in the pallet. It looked pretty weather tight. Is this good enough to store them outside?

The pellets seem soft and easy to break. Much softer that the NEWP pellets. They also put out much less heat than the NEWP. Are they just inferior pellets? or were they stored wrong?

Did you ask the local TSC? That would have been my first thought, but, hey, what do I know?

Maine Wood Pellets. Note the small MWP under the state of Maine. I tried 4 bags myself the other day from TSC. While they did have less dust than the Maine choice I am burning now, the heat seemed to be quite a bit less.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't know what MWP stands for. Heck, just 7 weeks ago my pellet knowledge was nil. OP has only 4 posts so probably new to the scene.

I was thinking they might be Maine Wood Pellets, but I read a couple of favorable reviews for these pellets. Overall I'm not to impressed. The only thing I have to compare them with is New England Wood Products. Reviews said NEWP were middle of the road.

There doesn't seem to be a good source for wood pellet ratings. Makes it hard for us noobs.

Ken, I put these together a while back to help the newb's(and others) get a feel for whats out there. Hopefully they help some.

I also have a few brands for this season, But just can't get into the swing yet. But I do have Geneva, Platinum Fires, Power House and Mc Feeters to review this year. Might do the Green Supremes too! Having a bit of fun just watching my stove eat pellets and at bag 30 without opening the door yet!

I also get a kick out of calling the local box stores asking what they have for pellets. Most just say "premium wood pellets" and don't know the actual names or quality.

Ken, I didn't mean to be a wise a$$ is my answer. Sorry if it came across that way. I myself didn't know what these pellets were until I asked someone else a while back. One would think they could spell it out on the bag somewhere... The people on here are great and there is no silly questions. A couple silly people, but all is in good fun. Welcome to the forum.

Agree.

Jay, thanks for the reply, and all your work in testing pellets. That'll be a good resource to get started.

Wood, no offense taken. I don't take internet replies personally. I realize everyone is trying to be entertaining.

If I were a manufacturer, and proud of my products, I'd do a little more to make it identifiable. MWP must not be proud of those pellets.

I have been burning MWP pellets this past winter and this winter. The batch I have now is from late last winter. My pellets were not kept outside, and are not soft or break apart easily. Mine came from SIB. They are not in any of the traditional bags, but are MWP. I have been very impressed by these pellets, but then my experience in choosing pellets is limited to the past 4 years. There are some who say that MWP are a shoulder pellet. I would give them a better rating. My unscientific knowledge is limited to forming opinions based on how well the pellet heat my home, how dirty my stove gets, and very important, cost.
Like so many in this forum, I do have some other brands of pellets that I am not so impressed with, but still need to burn them up. I will say that my experience has me wanting to try a few bags of a brand before I commit to a bulk purchase. That even goes for MWP. Pellet quality changes. After Christmas, I am going to shop around for a few other brands just to keep comparisons current. Who knows, if the wife is not looking, I might even stock up on a few more. My garage is 2 and a half bay, gambrel with dormers. Lots of floor space.

I got my insert in late Feb. i have burnt mostly MWP,about 2 ton since feb,
I have found they burn good, but the heat output is lower than some of the others i tried, and they seem to make my stove dirtier too.
But as far as burning....they burn good..i would consider them a shoulder pellet

I'm know I wouldn't have up until a couple months ago

Cubex maybe?

I have spoken to a MWP rep and they are proud of their goods. They actually have to keep it lo profile on some of their bags for the boxstores. They also sell to pellet houses and pellet dealers. Some get ticked when they see the same pellets at the boxstores cheaper. Many pellet companies rebag their product as to hide their true identity to keep dealers happy. NEWP also sells Green Supreme's at the box stores.

They can try to hide it but we usually figure it out anyway. See our rebagged thread.

Jay, you had a good test with MWP a while back, yet others consider them a shoulder pellet. Are they inconsistent, or is this just variability in different stoves? Could it be due to the fact these were stored outdoors?

tHANKS FOR YOUR EXPERIENCED OPINION,

I asked that question and was told that moisture content has an effect on BTU output. But it would need to be quite a bit to be noticable. Moisture doesn't increase the ash content, But could make it harder for the stove to eject it from the burnpot. So you could see pile ups and it may seem like there is a lot more ash content.

I also think batch varience is probably another factor. But I can't say anything solid for sure. Mostly theory's and without a lab, I can't prove anything.
