At the 1:12 mark, it looks like he cut right through his hinge wood..... but if you pause it, you can see that he just took some extra material off of that side of the tree so that he could complete his back cut with his short bar... That's my take on it.. Certainly makes you think if you don't pause the video... Seriously, who goes out in the Black Forest with that short of a bar?

at 1:40, when he starts limbing... If he hits the nose of the chain, wouldn't it kick back? I always make sure I'm a good bit away from the tip of the bar when limbing. Only time the top part of the nose on my saw hits the wood, is when the whole bar is buried in it.

That's why they don't show the face of the guy limbing. The guy that did the falling whacked himself when he started limbing.

I'm not a huge fan of Husky's, but it sure makes you want to buy one! Cheers!

I don't see anything wrong with his technique. As for the 562XP, I hope someone has one at the next GTG.

Dude made the bottom cut first on an open face notch!!?? He ain't no pro.

He's just that good ;)

I think that is the strangest hinge I have ever seen done on purpose. I don't think I will be trying that anytime in the near future.

I think he knows what he's doing.

Everyone should post up a vid of themselves cutting a tree down, we can all take turns picking it apart.

Yup.

Filming was great. Saw ripped through wood like Dom Deluise through a buffet. Overall pretty sexy.

Nor me brother. Nor me.

I do like the stand with the satisfied look and take a drink of water thing. The Swedish version of a Tarzan yell.

You ever see a hinge like that? It still has me baffled.

Just exactly HOW are you supposed to make your notch?

VIDEO game, no doubt.

Ummm....Garand...Lee is a very well respected Professional Fire Wood Dude 'round these parts. Ya might want to pony up to the bar and hear him tell a story.

Actually it's mostly hands on . . . and folks that take this course . . . have some amazing skills . . . my brother is quite bone-headed, but he took the course and it's uncanny at how he can put the tree right where he wants it to go . . . one of the few things that I respect about him.

Top cut first.
Easier to make your notch level and when your making your bottom cut you can look down the top cut to see when they intersect so you don't bypass into your hinge. An unlevel notch can throw the direction of the fell.

What they don't show in the video is that behind the cameraman are four acres of hung up or barber chaired trees that they went through trying to get the shot. And four still standing with just a bar sticking out of them. :coolsmirk:
